98 Explorer here needs some help please

I have a 98 explorer that I just bought for $500... it has the 5.0 engine in it. The interior is in great shape, the only problem I see is that the car wants to shut off on me at a light or when Im going slow. I have to keep the gas peddle pushed in for it to not shake and die on me. Other than that it starts up right away and when Im driving it down the highway its smooth.
I went to a dealer and they want $300 just to check it out because he said it was some sort of vacuum.

Any help will be appreciated.

The idle is controlled by the idle air control valve, or, IAC

Here is how to clean it. In this thread the engine is a 4.0 L but the IAC looks the same on your truck.

In the picture you can see a plunger inside the hole to the right. You can move this back and forth using small needle nose pliers. Spry cleaner in, move the plunger back and forth--repeat. You will feel it get smoother.
