Read a bunch of threads, and think I have this problem licked.

The car has 230K on it and every once in a while it wouldn't start hot. I live in Vegas, so I attributed it to vapor lock. It always started back up in a half hour or so. When running, it was perfect.

The other day it got cold (well by LV standards, but 30 degree difference in 2 days). I went out at night to start it up and nothing.

Figured it was the same problem, waited but nothing.

Next morning, nothing. SO:

Put starter fluid in TB and it started right up until it ran out.

Figured it was the fuel pump and started the troubleshooting. Found fuse 9 sitting at an angle. Plugged it in correct, and car started no problem

30 minutes later I wanted to go to the store, and again, no start.

Waited another hour, nothing, but I notice that it smelled like gas in the engine compartment.

Today, I bought another fuel pressure guage and put it on. Almost 40 pounds, car started right up after I bled it putting the guage on.

I am figuring now that the fuel pressure regulator is gone, but I can't find it for the life of me. All the pics are for 4.0 and don't apply.

Before you tell me I don't have a return system, the build date on this one is Aug, 1997, and it has 2 rails. I just can't find the FPR.

Any help would be appreciated, and if that doesn't sound like the problem, please let me know.

I'd replace the fuel pump relay. Since it's an electrical part, it can be sporatic. Next time it won't start, see if you hear the fuel pump prime for a second or two when you turn the key to the 'ON' position. If you don't hear it, then replace the fuel pump relay. Cheap and easy repair.
