98 mountaineer body part interchange??

can I use the grille/fender/hood/headlight assembly and airbags from a 96 and 99 ford explorer on my 98 mountaineer??

I got in a slight frontend accident and the local u-pull has explorers in this body range.

as long as everything will physically bolt up and work, I'll be happy. I dont care if it has a ford emblem or not, I just need to get the car back together so I can drive it is all. thanks guys!

Yes the difference is in the grill and header panel.
You will need the explorer header panel to accept the explorer headlights and the explorer grill.

There also may be slight wiring changes needed as the explorer has more bulbs I believe.

I am going to put the 98+ Mounty front header panel, grill and headlights on my 96 explorer

so I can use either a 95-01 explorer or 95-01 mountaineer fender and hood then??

I ask because I've got the mountaineer fender in the correct white on the way but I already got a 99 explorer header panel from the u-pull the other day. Why wont the mountaineer headlights work in the explorer header panel?? they dont physically fit??

oh well, explorer stuff is cheaper anyway

yes the fenders and hoods on 95-01 Explorer's and Mounty's are the same
Your 98+ Mercury has a different header panel that will not accept the Mercury headlight and corner light, or the grill.
The 98-01 Mounty has a unique front end when it comes to those parts.

so the earlier mountaineer parts will bolt up to the explorer header panel??

cool deal guys, thanks a bunch. I found a good used white/gray 97 mountaineer fender on car-part.com that I ordered today. I also ordered a 97 mountaineer grille from ebay as well as the 95-01 explorer headlight set and some trim surrounds.

got all the body parts for $400

now, my next question.

can I use any airbags from 95-01 explorers? I've also seen a few say from rangers??

I dont care if the driver side shows the mercury or ford badge on it, I just want them in and functional.

Do I need to replace the steering wheel clockspring? what all clocksprings will work?? Oh and yes, I've got cruise control but no temp/radio controls.

oh and I grabbed both of the impact sensors from the 99 explorer I got the header panel from, can I use them on the mountaineer or not?? and do they have to be pointing straight ahead?? the radiator support is pushed in a little where the left one bolts on but not enough that I cant get the fender and header panel to line up properly...

I got the header panel with bulb plugs, hood release cable, impact sensors, etc from the u-pull for $40.

I had to pay $155 for the fender shipped to me. I was willing to pay that because it's the correct color with the argent lower half and no paint problems...no paintbooth you know...

I got brand new headlight assemblies from ebay with all bulbs/mounting hardware including the headlight adjusters for $135.00 shipped.

and I got a brand new grille with both grille extensions for $85 shipped.

its actually around $415 for the body parts but at least everything will work together and look good.

You can use the airbags from any 95-01 Explorer (same dash) Sport, Sport trac. I believe the airbag control box thingy is also the same but you might want to check to be sure.

I will be buying all these parts from a guy here in town for $300, the truck was hit in the rear and the airbags did not deploy.
I already got the entire front clip for $450

I now have too many grills and lights, etc......Once my project is up and running I will sell the extra's.
I think I boxed up 4 sets of explorer corner lights this weekend for storage. hahaha oops. I started collecting parts to put my 96 back together and well I collected too many, but couldnt pass up the good deals.
I will be running a 98 Mercury grill/header/lights so thats even more $$$ to spend.

I will be going clear corners, I friggin hate yellow.
I waited 4 years for the aftermarket to finally make clear parking lamps for the BII, I was pretty psyched when they finally did, they look SO MUCH BETTER

found out a few minutes ago that the 98 mountaineer impact sensors are different from the 99 explorer ones. They have a 4 prong white connector while the explrorer uses a 2 prong black connector.

did your clear headlight/corner light combo from ebay come with all of the attaching hardware and with the headlight adjuster rods?? The ones I had bid on dont come with it so I cancelled my bid and actually found some cheaper but I dont want to bid unless I can get all of the attaching hardware since I'm missing half of it (its on the side of the road somewhere )
