I had an eye-opening experience last nite with my truck. For the last couple years, the brakes have been absolutely terrible. I pull my 18' boat and have to drive like I'm on ice because there is so little stopping power. It feels just like wet brakes, push as hard as you want and does not stop. After reading this thread, I decided to do a test myself. Out in the back country roads where there are no other cars, I mashed down on the pedal 3 different times while going about 35mph. Each time it sucked. Then I popped the hood and removed the 30 amp ABS fuse. The ABS lite was on (good!) and off I went for another test.
WOW!!!!!!! I could actually hear chirping for the first time!! The worked fantastic! I decided to install the ABS fuse and cycled the ignition to get the ABS light out. Here's the wierd part, now with the ABS hooked back up and the light off, it stops like it is supposed to, I can actually feel confident about stopping again.
I really like the idea of ABS, especially in rain or snow. I was about to disconnect it because stopping distance was a mile, but now it's working great.
What I don't get is why do they all of a sudden work now after my screwing around with the ABS fuse?
