a big drive ahead

i live in florida and am gonna drive my ex across the us im gonna put some small tires on and do a good tune up before i go does anybody have any more suggestions for me it would be helpfull.I have 113000 miles on it.

my 96 has 200,000+ miles on it, and I make a trip from San Diego to Canada every 2-3 months. All I do is keep its maintenance up and it gives me no problems at all.

And tires, make sure you got good pressure and the spare is operational. Don't want to get a flat and put on another flat.

As long as you have been maintaining the X, it should have no problem.

Things I do before big trips (I have 300k miles now) and just did a 1200 mile trip.. with 100+ of it at about 4000+ rpms in low range (sand dunes)..

Change oil/filter
Flush Tranny fluid and change external filter (cost < $15 to do myself)
check/repack/replace front bearings
Check top-off all fluids (power steering, diffs, xfercase, water etc)..

Things like plugs/fuel filter etc I do if it is getting close to teh time to do them anyway (or if I can't remember the last time I did it)..
