A/c blows hot

I just purchased a 1997 xtl. I tested the a/c at the lot and it blows normal and coooold on max a/c. But after we exchanged money ai left i found that anything other position i set the switch to, blew hot air. Like heater air. Even when the vent was on, a/c was off on a 73 degree day, the temp was heater type hot.
What did i get into?

I am not a mechanic but maybe your blend door or the heater control valve is stuck. Can anyone comment to that?

This definitely sounds like the very common blend door issue. It seems like they all break at some point. There are a couple threads on here. This one is very easy. The other is a little more involved.
