A/C Compressor Seized Up...

These A/C compressors are Scroll compressors. In order for the scroll action to take place the rotating motion of the input shaft is converted to scroll action. They use big complex bearing to do so..

When an A/C compressor fails normally something goes wrong with the bearings inside...

Well got my salvage yard compressor installed. Added 3oz's of PAG46 to the drained replacement. Measured 1.5oz out of the locked up one.

Took a look at the orifice tube filter with a camera and didn't see anything significant so closed it up and put the system on the vac.

Filled with 3 cans of Suva and it's cooling great. This compressor is silent compared to my old one. I guess I should have known it was on it's way out because it was loud but I had heard years ago that Ford compressors were noisy so I didn't think anything of it.

Now something new to me is this output pulse. This is the first scroll compressor I've serviced.

The compressor on our 2006 mustang just locked up last week. I pull the orifice tube to see how bad things were and it looked like your pic..

I picked up a new condenser, compressor, accumulator, orifice tube with flush, oil and o-rings for $325 (I used a jobber discount, thanks to my neighbor) and best of all, lifetime warranty (as long as I bought all that at once)..

The newer style condenser has much thinner (flatter) tubes while the original one had big round tubes.. My guess is next time (hopefully, never) this happens the condenser will plug up instead of letting all that metal through.

could be your gauges. I had that problem too checking on mine once. I unhooked the gauges and connected again and the pulse went away. Only mine was much worse. like + or - 50 psi pulse....

Thing is the pulse can be felt on the high side line even with the gauges not connected.
