'98 explorer sport rust
Hey there. My A/C in my 1998 explorer sport has been non-functional since i've owned it. I have no need for its use, if its hot out, I open the windows.

I was wondering if anyone has or knows how to remove the a/c, and leave it completly out - I'm assuming this will give the engine some extra power - I know i'll have to get a shorter belt, but I'm wondering if I should even bother with it - I have no issues with time in performing this project. Thanks for any help anyone can give!

simple to remove 4 long shoulder bolts on top 4 corners take em out , drain the free-on an there is a block bolted to the back of the ac unit one bolt unbolt it and its free ***BUT DONT FORGET TO HAVE THEW AC DRAINED FIRST***

also forget the shorter belt get a a/c bypass pully my local napa carries them

Why bother? You wont save anything assuming your existing compressor never comes on. Have you ever spun the AC pulley by hand? If not, try it. Then ask yourself just how much power you'll be saving. Nothing!

There is no power gained from removing the pump.
If it's not running, there's no extra load on the engine.

I agree that there won't be any power gains. The only time the A/C puts a load on your engine is when it is running.

no power gains but makes the engine bay look way cleaner without it:thumbsup:
