Looks like a good solution, and way cheaper than what I did. Just promise me that you'll look over those welds every now and then looking for stress fractures, as welds on steering components make me a bit nervous. (I'm almost a hypochondriac about welds on critical components)

haha i promise. It is sleeved in a bit on both ends as well. So basically the weld is just keeping it from sliding out.

Need input!

:)

Sorry for the lack of updates. I snatched up another toy (94 grand cherokee)and was spending time with it too. However I stole the jeep wheels for the zj since it desperately needed a bit larger tires. Anyway wife has been driving that one and I'm back to this one. :)

Got a bit of work done today. Cab mounts are in and its bolted down and I got the hood mounted to the fenders.

And finally a 47 Ford truck hood mated to 41 Merc car fenders/grille

Your project is really starting to take shape.

Keep it up!

x2!! Really diggin that front end!!!!

:DLooking good bud! What kind of welder are you using on the sheetmetal, just a regular wire feed? And did you reuse the explorer cab mounts or modify the cab mounts to fit the body? And of course, we demand pics of the underside of the body :D

X3:thumbsup::thumbsup: on the work bud, I wish I was at where you are on my 59 !

Just getting the front end braced up and mounts made.

Great Job! Keep the updates comming...

By any chance do you have any photos of what you have done for body mounts? I've got something similar going on and i'm to the point of mounting the cab...

I'll try to remember to take some pics of the underside tomorrow after work. I didn't end up using the body mounts from the explorer. I think you could get away with using two of them for the rear of the cab though. The front ones were a bit far forward and I probably could have used them just cut them off and moved them. For the rear I made my own. and for the front two I actually used the mounts from the explorer rad support since I cut them off when shortened the front of the frame.

Yeah just using a Lincoln power mig 200 welder.

Edit: Pics of body mounts.

The rears are in place and for resting purposes still sitting on the original mounting 2x4 notched out. Plan to replace soon. :) Also will finish welding the brackets and add gussets on the top of the frame for added strength. It aint pretty but gets the job done.

And the front mount as well as the original explorer front mount still on for reference.

A nice evening, A well ventilated back yard, and 3 cans of duplicolor fleet coatings semi gloss black gets you a quick paint job. Been chasing a lot of wires lately and finally got it running again. Took er for a test drive and snapped a few pics of my two trucks tonight.

please keep up the good work on this project. I love it.

Unbelievable-spent way too much time trying to refind this thread to see update and never found it.... Truly Amazing work. Other truck is super nice too.

That truck is too cool! I noticed that you painted the hood, are you planning on seam welding/ wire brushing the seam lines to make it look smooth and sexy, or are you going to the Frankenstein look?

The Frankenstein look is just temporary. It will eventually get all welded up and smoothed out.
