This is really kind of weird. Sometimes the power windows decide not to work at all. None of them. No switches work and they stay inop until they decide to start working again. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to it and I was wondering if there is some switch or control for them all. Has anyone else had this problem?

are all (two or four) power windows affected or is it just one?

also do the power lock switches (if equipped) work when the windows fail?

All 4 windows are affected, and all 4 switches dont work. The power locks work fine though. Thanks.

Sounds like it could be a loose power wire to the master switch on the driver's door.

i don't have the wiring diagrams in front of me but you might check if the windows share a common fuse, even if its not blown it could be loose or the fuse socket could be shot.

try driving over some bumps, its a great diagnostic tool for loose connections

I tried the bumps, didnt help. I will have to take the door apart to check the wiring. Thanks.

its a broken wire in the door post. Lots of posts... try tracing LB/BK.

Same problem with my pass. rear door. Somedays it would work...somedays not at all. Completly random. now it does not work at all, but at least it's in the up postion:D

bud, tracing what? Whats that? Thanks.

He means to find the wire light blue/black (LB/BK) and follow it to see if it is pinched or loose somewhere.

I had the same problem on my driver's side window switch--just the button to actuate the Driver window, not the passenger, it worked fine. It turns out it was just the contacts inside the button. I ended up replacing the entire unit-it was $50 bucks and about 10 minutes of my time.

I have the same problem.. I just let it be for a bit and it fixes itself.

That is what I do now. It seems to be taking longer to fix itself though.

I had the same problem. It is a relay that needs to be replaced. It is located under the driverside dash and also operates the 4wd system. You may have noticed that the 4wd drive lights blink randomly too. I dont recall the part number, but in the haynes manual you should be able to find it.
Cheap part from the ford dealership
I wasted time and money trying to have them help me too.
They took the car for hours and returned it with all the windows down saying they couldnt find the problem. Then it rained, thanks Ford.

anyways, hope this helps you.

I have taken apart the door and all the wires look ok, I have found that there are a couple of relays that might be the culprit. I have to locate them though. Where are the relays located under the drivers dash? I think thats where they might be.

There have been at lest two people in the last three months which had breaks in the main wire, in the door jamb. I would not have thought that those wires would become hurt, the design seems better than of the past. Since you have complete power loss, I would check the under hood fuses, and relays, then power in the door.

If you find no power after that, I would say pull open the jamb connector and trace power back through the main blue/black wire. Start there Peter, that should find 99% of the possibilities. Good luck,
