Ok, so I've been reading and trying to figure this wiring out for at least a good week. The instructions for my after market lights are quite simple....basically it's one long simple curcuit....going from the battery, to a fuse, from fuse into the aftermarket switch, from there the electricity flows from the switch down to the fogs.

Now I want to wiring this up so when I turn off my lights the fogs go off too. Now I hear that the factory wiring can't handle the aftermarket fogs (55w) without a relay. Under the one explaination of wiring the fogs directly into the parking light wires makes the most sense to me. But when it comes to the relay way, I get lost.

It seems to me (I'm confused as hell), that I could use the power off of the parking lamps by just adding a "T" off of it, run an in-line fuse, then run that power into the switch in the car (using the aftermarket switch) then from there run the power back from the car into the engine compartment again down to the lights, and use the ground from the lights and ground it anywhere or just back up to the parking light ground.

If I'm using a relay, am I cutting the power wire from the parking lamps, now running that into my switch which is grounded. Have another wire coming out of my switch up into the relay. which is also grounded. Meanwhile on the other side I have the power source coming into the relay off the batter with a fuse in line. Have power wires coming up from the bottom also into the relay and their grounds being grounded.

Where do I put the relay then? Does it go in some box? Or what? I'm trying to figure this all out.... The diagram that I have been trying to figure out, shows that off the relay it goes to the switch, which has 3 plugs and has a ground, the incoming power source, and antoher one that goes off to the parking lights....is it just taping in? Or am I cutting it off completely. And is it the power line?

I'm sorry for bringing this up because I know there are a million threads, but I just can't figure this out for the life of me and it's racking my brain!!!

Thank you for putting up with me.

*Power: battery, fuse (15A), relay
*Switch power: stock lamp tap, switch, relay
*Power from relay to lamps
*Grounds: relay, each lamp, and the switch if it's lit.

So when I do the stock lamp tap, with I just kind of "T" into it? And they then will light up with my just parking lamps?

Another thing is where do I actually mount the relay?

Thanks for the help, I'm finally starting to understand all of this

Will it be in a little box, or just the exposed relay? And where won't it get wet?

Looking at this diagram Dead Link Removed
you would just be tapping into the parking light wire with the wire that goes to the switch. Useing the relay is keeping the higher volt load out of the interior of the veh. and providing a full 14 volts of power to your lights. The relay can be mounted most any place under the hood. These are my headlight relays.

And that would be the brown wire for a '98, correct? (The parking lamp wire)

Yes...
If you need some help and have a heated garage let me know.

Thank you for all of the help, I'm still at school right now, but am going home this afternoon to put in the fogs (yes, with the relay) and also some tow hooks. If I need some help I'll be sure to let you know, thank you for the offer.

I had to forget about the relay when I was doing it. I hooked everything up except I think I messed up the brown wire part...was I suppose to clip it and then attach the end of the relay wire to the brown wire going into the back of the parking light? I just added a wire off of it coming from the relay.

On a nice warm spring day hooking up lights is So much eaiser. In weather like this the wire wont bend, hands wont work and even the brain freezes.
If you got them on the truck & working , consider it a success.
