Well back in OCT 2002 we bought a 2000 Explorer 4 dr 4.0 SOHC with 42000 miles on it and it had brand new good year wrangler
oem tires on it. Since we got it it always growled alittle in the front so at 150,000 we put in both front wheel bearings and new nuts then 15000 laiter the both wheel bearings were bad and orileys auto parts warranted them. At about 90,000 I got new tires from Walmart, The good year wrangler knock offs and had the upper ball joints and alinement done. As with the tires from 40-90k it chopped the pass front tire again I rotate the tirese every 3-4k and change the oil. At 75k the radio died,idle air speed control motor and center counsel fan were bad under extended warranty. 1000,00 it got new brake pads in the front. At about 150K I did another set of the walmart wrangler tires, Good shocks, upper and lower ball joints and the first set of wheel bearings and a 4 wheel alignment. Shortly after that the same pass front wheels would chop. Then the dr rear brake pads fell apart. So I stuck on new rotors and pads. Then noticed the axle shaft moves in and out. My buddy thats a car mechanic says its prop the posi disks are wore. Havent addressed that yet. Its got a lean condition on bank 1 and 2 from a leaky intake and a small coolant leak that you can smell but leaves no spots. IMO the stuff thats wrong is maintenance. Original tranny dont use no oil. I;ve replaced the dr front and rear latch assy now the pass rear one is bad sometimes. It need the rear hatch clip that attaches the rod to the latch and at times the glass hatch latch dont work. The bad is I've never done the spark plugs. 175,000 miles. Since we have got it it gotten 17.5 mpg and on a few long trips got 21. Ford made a pretty solid vehical. My other is a 94 Bronco 351 with 197K.
