a little info on computers or the wiring harness

Ok I found a trans for $450 its out of a 99 V8 Mountainer with 42000 on it the guy said it will bolt up but wouldnt work because the computers were different he wants another 65 for the computer, what I have read here in the forums is that all I would have to do is repin the wiring harness, the trans is still in the vehicle the guy is pretty decent feller I have bought many parts for dif cars and trucks and never a problem so he may just be uniformed

is your 97 a p head 5.0L or no?

Using parts from your 97 trans you can make that 99 work OR you can do some simple wiring to make it work

Do a search , this has been discussed.
The trans changed very little 96-2001, but the sensor on the trans did a bit

Does the 99 have awd?

a (P) head never heard that term but stopped by Brownies Transmission shop he said all I had to do was to get the harness from the 99 and splice it into my wiring which should be all I would need then he asked me which converter I had ok another question how many converters are there

there is one torque converter and you have the factory unit. LOL

Or he can install the DTRS from your 97 transmission and not have to wire up anything.

I just bought a 1997 Explorer 5.0 AWD on the way to work this morning the transmission started to slip figured the transmission fluid was low no big deal I had some at the shop anyways got to a stoplight (long stoplight) then started to go and the engine just rev'd then the trans caught made it to the parking lot and it wouldnt go forward had to back into the lot,anyways I have a 1998 F150 4WD 25.000m (roll over) and a 1999 F150 RWD 42.000m (bad motor) both have the 5.0 and both have the U in the VIN my question is will they interchange with my Explorer, I pulled the pan on the Explorer and it was a nice metallic sludge
