Well I Wanted a solution to the holes behind the running boards. I had seen people plug them, weld them, get the trim from models that didn’t have running boards, etc. I wanted something easy, DURABLE, and something that of course looks nice.
And I found this!!! Just under $10.00, very tuff stuff.
So i went from this...

Using This!!

I used my heat gun, to soften it up enough to make the curves. The area under it, i painted black to match. I got it from O'Reilly's auto parts. comes in a roll, 2" wide, by 20' long. enough to do both sides, with almost 8 feet left over. and as i mentioned, under 10 bucks. I have used it on my boat, with a lot of water contact, and it has held up EXTREMELY well, over the past 2 years. so when this idea hit me, i was like, eureka!!! now i can ditch those running boards.

it is 2" wide, "perfect for the lower rockers, and there is 20 feet in a roll. and sticks like the end of time, LOL.
and it is very tough!!

Thanks..I bookmarked it!

amazing! this might give me the courage to tackle the same project! what is the texture like? kinda rough like a spray in bed liner?

Yes exactly like spray in bedliner. it is thick enough to cover the holes, and not "sink in". they just disappear. and i have had it on the gunwales of my fiberglass boat for almost 2 years, and not a single edge has poped up. It is nicer than the stuff that feels like sandpaper, and grips deck shoes very well. i was actually cleaning the boat when the idea hit me about using this to cover the holes. it is tough, it goes on straight, (no wavy lines, or overspray), and no filling the holes first. so yeah i am very happy with it.

I use that tape for my custom fishing rod business. I use it over cork tape for building the handle on deckhand style rods (no reel seat). I end up ripping into a 1" strip so it wraps around the rod easier. The adhesive will withstand salt water. It'll hold up just fine for your application.
