I have a 93 explorer 4x4 with the infamous a4ld in it. It was having alot of problem going into first gear, I would have to rev it up high, then it would go in. Eventually it quit moving forward at all. I had reverse but no forward gears. I looked in all the sticky posts here and checked a few other posts and found some info on where to start looking, pressure checks and such. When I looked at the vacum tree there was transmission fluid and I had noticed some smoke when starting up. I pulled the vacum line loose from the modulator and the truck would move forward again just like it was supposed to. Obviously it will not shift if I leave it unplugged so I need to replace it. How likely is it that the modulator is all that is wrong with this?
