I rebuilt my A4LD (94 4.0L Limited) in January and after a few problems, everything is working really well.. The only problem left is that when I take off from a stop it seems to me like it's starting in second gear, but after about 30 feet it "feels" like it downshifts into first gear and works normally.. When it's cold, it seems to work normal.. Now, if I leave the gear select in D, it works great, but if it is in OD, then it's like it is starting off in second and then downshifts to first 30 feet down the road..

Any thoughts? Kick down cable?

Thanks,

When you rebuilt it, did you adjust the kick down cable? Have you checked the fluid level? What about a band adjustment? Did you flush out the cooler, and lines before reinstalling the rebuilt transmission? There could be some shavings left in there from before. Start with the adjustments. This link has some information on adjusting the kick down cable: http://www.rangerpowersports.com/forum/showthread.php?t=176459

By the way, what kind of fluid, and filter did you use? Did you use any additives like Lucas, or Lubegard? Was your transmission a complete rebuild, or just a soft parts rebuild? Was the valve body cleaned at that time?

Do you have manual first that feels like 1st hear from initial engagement ? I am with BB on this one, sounds VB related.

First off, thanks for your time..

Kickdown - I did adjust my kickdown, but had quite a bit of trouble with the button on the firewall as we have lots of corrosion in this area.. I have not checked this again since, but I could to make sure it is properly set..

Have not checked my trans fluid in a while, will do..

Cooler - I flushed the lines with brake cleaner and compressed air.. I rebuilt the trans because the intermediate band broke, and there wasn't many shavings in the case/pan when I tore it down..

I used the cheapest ATF III I could find in a 20lt pail.. Can't remember what the brand of filter was..

No additives.

Soft part rebuild, seals, frictions, gaskets, bands, servos.. No steels or shims.

I cleaned the valve body and installed a shift kit..

Manual 1st feels like 1st and shifts to second when I do.. It starts out in 1st when in "D" as well, just on OD...

Thanks,

Was the governor cleaned, or replaced?

Yeap, cleaned it before I even took the tranny apart trying to get second gear to work properly.. Cleaned it again when it was out..

Thanks,
