So I've been searching for an A4LD transmission for my '92 Explorer, which I finally found one, so that's good.

Anyway, the guy at the local tranny shop said that if I found one, even though the rangers used the same transmission, the linkages wouldn't match up if the transmission came out of a Ranger. I though this was bull because the Ranger and Explorer are on the same frame and stuff, right?

So my main question is, exactly what years, makes , models, could I have looked in to find the right transmission? I know that they went to a different tranny after '94, but that's about all I know.

Thanks,

Mike

The shift bracket on the driver's side is different if you have a column shift or a floor shift. Don't forget to look into the Aerostars too. You could easily swap the bracket.

So, as long as the shifter is on the column, like my Explorer, it will go right in? I haven't been in any rangers that weren't 5 speeds, are all the automatics on the column?

Also, what year Aerostars used the A4LD?
