I just bought my first 2002 ford explorer xlt, and I had some questions about it. one thing that i have noticed is the directional next to the outside temperature gauge sometimes reads nothing, then it decides to work but it show the wrong direction for which im traveling. another thing i have noticed is that the airbag light flashes when i first start it up and then stays on, is that normal?

Welcome aboard csull247! :salute:

The airbag light: when you first start the Ex the air bag light will blink the fault code. For instance: blink 3 times, pause, blink 4 times. This will repeat then the light will stay on. The example I gave is light flash code 34.

Check this out and post up the results and we will go from there!

The direction indicator: your compass may need to be re-calibrated. The info on how to do this is in the owner's manual. If you don't have an owner's manual, Dead Link Removed.

Start by selecting the proper zone:

Then calibrate the compass:

Hope this helps out! :biggthump

It does exactly what you said, The blinking three times than four than staying on. Thanks for all that information, Im gonna work on getting that directional fixed to. your a big help!!!

I had Light Flashing Code(LFC) 33 with my Ex. As directed by others on the forum, I checked & cleaned the connector under the seat and all is well. You have LFC 34, that is Passenger seat pretensioner fault. I would check the connector under the passenger seat.

Here is the response I got from swetrid when I asked about LFC 33:

Ford has a tsb for this problem. Here it is, it is basically just a new wiring assy.

Will do, that will be my next project. I had a 95 explorer before and it had all kinds of electrical issues. it would act up all the time. thats why im watching this one so closely. the only other thing it has done is the seat belt chime sound sometimes wont go off when you dont put your seat belt on.

Could be related to the seat belt pretensioner.

I looked under the driver seat and found two plug ins one with the multiple wires the other with just two. The one for two were not even attached it looked like they had been cut off way down in the plug, I got them hooked up again started the car and the airbag light didnt flash it just came on after 45 seconds and stayed. checked the passenger side, cleaned and checked. shut the car off, started it again then this time it stayed off. so its fixed for now.

Does anyone know if they make a body lift or suspension lift for the 02 explorer, Im gonna need new tires one day and I wanted to do a little lift with some 31's. but i cant find anything for my year?
