ABS light is on

ALDL connector on 1995 Ford Explorer

I went to Autozone and Pep Boys today, both of them tried to read the always on ABS code from the ALDL connector onder the dash beside the steering column with Actron scanners and both attempts failed with a message check connection and try again. I then went to a Ford Dealer who wanetd to set me up for a 1 hour appointment. I asked him if that wasn't a bit excessive just to read the codes, and he said they needed to run a "complete" diagnostic. I declined. One of the other service managers at Ford mentioned that he thought I could read the codes using a jumper and count the blinks method, but he didn't know how to do it. I have read that in this forum as well and am going to find it and try it.

Has anyone ever successfully read codes from a 1995 Ford Explorer with the under dash ALDL connector? If so please let us know which scanner you used. Thanks!

would live to be able to read the aldl connector

I jumpered the test connector under the hood and wired the hood light to blink pulses. I got a readout of 335 twice followed by 111 twice. There is an excellent posting in this forum by BrooklynBay that defines these codes.

335#
(O)#
EGR feedback signal is/was out of range - EVR or PFE#
PFE or DPFE sensor voltage out of Self-Test range.

111#
System checks OK#

Still puzzled over why my ABS light is on solid. I already tried changing out the speed sensor that sits on top of the rear differential.

Before I replace anything else I would love to find an inexpensive (non Ford dlr) way to read the ABS codes on this 1995 Explorer. It has an ALDL connector under the dash but as mentioned before Pepboys and two Autozone stores failed to read it with their Actron ODB2 scanners.

Correct mdl scanner to read the ALDL connector?

If anyone here has ever used a scanner to read the codes from the ALDL connector by the steering column on a 1995 Explorer XLT please mention the type of scanner you used. Thanks!

Here is a link to a picture on my vehichles under drivers side dash ALDL connector. Notice that its a 12 pin plug, and that only 4 of the 12 plug positions have connecting pins. http://globalpartnerssite.com/explorer/1995_Ford_Explorer_ALDL_under_dash_connector.png

Still looking for any one who has successfully read (especially) ABS codes r from this connector. Would kike to know which mdl scanner or PC sw you used.

Thanks

Most 95's didn't have an ALDL connector. You had to use the OBD I connector under the hood for access to the ECM. If you have an ALDL connector, it must be a very late 95. I've never run across one that did.

P.S. My 95 was definitely the "new" body style and it was OBD I (EEC IV) and did not have an ALDL connector by the column.

Here is a picture of the ALDL connector on this 95 X.

And an interesting documentation paper on this connector.

Any luck?

Hi all, first post.

Dan, I'm wondering if you have had any luck sorting out the late '95 ABS code. I bought one of these for my daughter and in the process of restoring it to great condition, I have replaced the front hubs (so incidentally replaced the front sensors) and for grins tried the rear speed sensor. Checked the relays and fuses with a meter. The cruise control works so I think that eliminates the master cyl. pressure sensor.

Since the ABS light is on solid from the second the key is turned on, I need to read the codes to narrow down where else to work on.

Thanks for any assistance you could provide.

so what is the verdict on a economical ABS code reader?
