I have never lifted a vehicle before so i am really curious of what my options are. What are the advantages and disadvantages of having a
shackle lift vs a add-a-leaf lift and vise versa?
What is the story with body lifts?
I wanna be able to fit 31s under it comfortably with no problems!

Thanks,
Brett

An add-a-leaf or shackle won't help you fit 31's where you need help the most, which is in the front. A reciprocating saw can fix that, though.

Downsides:
Body lifts do not improve the capabilities of your vehicle, and some would argue introduce potential problems.

Shackles flatten out your springs and may cause them to wear out over time.

Add-A-Leaf's make your ride stiffer and tend not to flex as well.

I have both shackles and add-a-leafs, for what it's worth.

How is that workin out for you? Will that work on my 00 eddie? What do i do about the front if i was to do something like that? I have heard that if a tt is done that sometimes the cv shafts will bind. I really dont want that. All I really want is at least 3 inch lift front and rear!

if you want 3 inches and dont want to worry about binding cv's just go with the 3 inch body lift. a properly done BL should not pose any problems. performance wise a body lift can actually help, a body lift will allow you to clear larger tires which in turns raises your axles, which are your lowest clearance point off the ground. the only way to create axle clearance is with larger tires. a suspension lift on a 2nd gen ex is kind of pointless since an IFS lift just utilizes drop brackets which will not increase suspension travel. you could also go with a 2 inch BL and a shackle or AAL, with only an inch of TT up front which id really doubt would bind your cv's. theres tons of info on this forum regarding lifts and the pros and cons of one lift versus another, check out the modified 95-01 forum and youll find all you need to know.

i fit 31s on my 98 without lifts or cutting. been driving on it like this for over 20,000 miles without issue.
