Add a Leaf

Thanks Alec, thats exactly what I wanted to hear :D

So let me get this right - as I apparently have the stiffest torsion bars (have not found label, but been told ALL UK RHD models have these) then I should get 2" from a torsion bar adustment for the front. For the rears if I use a double add-a-leaf, I should also get about 2" on the rear ?

I also have self leveling suspension, but apparently i should be able to lower the sensor ?

You suggest the double pro comp kit. Do you know a p/n and where do I get them shipped to the UK from ?

All these questions

Bruce,
Every Explorer is different. Everyone gets slightly different results when doing lifts, but yes, you can probably get about 2" out of the TT and the double aal.

The automatic shocks should be fine, just shut off the system while working on the truck.

I don't know the ProComp part number, but it is available among others through Summitracing.com and 4wheelparts.com . You may need to call either for details.

Thanks for that I will call today :D

I know this is a bit thick but....presumably the self levelling suspension has a sensor which reads from a point under the X, if I raise the back by 2" does the sensor go up with it and then level the X at its new higher stance ?

Thanks

Alec,

Checked out your truck....VERY nice, well done:thumbsup:

I bet that doesn't hang around

Sorry, but I don't know much about the airride. I do know that 2" of lift usually doesn't mess it up as long as you disable it while working on the truck.

Thanks for the compliments!

Alec,

Thanks for all your help - much appreciated :D

Just one thing - isn't there always  I have looked all over the place but still still cannot find double add a leaf kits listed anywhere, being in the UK doesn't help either as when I do try to call I always seem to pick the wrong time. Got any ideas who lists these on-line so I can order over the web ?

Thanks again - just wish I was over there, I'm so jealous of all those goodies you have easy access to - not to mention all that Explorer action you get to do :(

I rather have LHD and your terrain and scenery to take my X on :D

U.K.

4Wheel parts has them, but does not list on the site, I had a hard time finding add a leafs on any sites. If you have a hard time getting these I can help you, I have shipped parts Germany for another member, and would be willing to do the same for you. All I did was found the price and sghipping then the guy sent to me and I did the rest, I do not want anything for helping, just enjoy helping others.

I'm planning on a 2" tt for the front, but I'm still undecided for the rear. The Pro-Comp EXP-13120 that has been discussed here sounds good to me, but I still haven't ruled out shacles. How hard is this to do for a first time lift? If I were to do shackles, which I gather is easier to install, what is a good model? What are the drawbacks? Thanks.

Pretty much your only option for shackles is the Warrior Products ones. Their part number is WAR-153 and you'll have to call either 4wheelparts or desertrat.com to order them. The only real drawback is they'll hang lower from the frame.

How difficult is the Pro-Comp add-a-leaf kit to install with limited experience. I'm pretty handy, I just haven’t ventured into lifts at all...

The concept is really easy. There not much you could do wrong either. It's just getting the leafs remounted that can be tricky. But all in all, it's a pretty simple mod to do. Especially if you have help.

I put the Pro Comp AAL on mine this weekend. It was the first time I had done anything like that before and I didn't have a bit of trouble. All you need is basic handtools jack and jackstands. The instructions were really straight forward.

Great. I'll be on the phone with summit asap. :D

Dont let summit try to talk you out of it....They kept tellin me on the phone it wouldnt work with my 99. Finally called Pro Comp to verify that it would.

I made the order:

The Procomp kit and a 1" inch block for the rear to be used in combonation with a tt on the front for a 2"-2.5" total lift. Hope it works!

1" Blocks?

SGR1600... Where did you get the 1" blocks for the rear or your X? How do these work? I thought that lift blocks only work with SOA rear ends?
