I installed the remote tranny filter. The X shifts so easy now. Not a bump what so ever when shifting. I installed the tranny temp gauge also but it reads 140 to 360 and i want one to read lower. Can i use another gauge like for oil temp or water temp ?? The gauge i installed is electric.

Thanks

The name is Faris but it came with the perma cool remote filter kit with gauge. Its just the gauge dont start to read till 140 and i rather have one reading lower.

The sensor is mounted in the top of the filter housing which is mounted on the line from the tranny to the radiator. It works fine and shows the temp but when its cool outside and im just crusing round bout 70 the tempis round 140. I just want a lower reading gauge so i can the temp climb

How did the remote filter improve the transmission shifting?

This is where I bought my gauges from (they even had a pressure gauge I was looking for)

I was able to get a 270 degree sweep electric transmission temperature gauge (It has its own sending unit) for just over $50
It reads from 100 to 280F.

Here is the page for that gauge.

The shifting is 100% better. It shifts so easy now. Very good investment. From what I see I need a full sweep gauge. The gauge works now it just on cooler days its reads right at 140 when just cruizn. But after looking on summit there are gauges that read to 260. The gauge in the picture above only reads to 260. Regular oil temp gauges read to 260 why wont they work on the tranny fluid temp. Dont tranny fluid start breaking down @ 250 anyway. When you driving or pulling you want to try to keep the temp well below 250 anyhow right. So thats why I was thinking a regular oil temp gauge might work because i dont need a gauge that reads so high. I want one to reader lower.

The gauge pictured above goes to 280.. But thats not important ;)

You don't "need" a full sweep gauge. 270 Degree sweep just makes it easier to read (vrs the normal 90 degree sweep for "most" electrical gauges)
What you need is a gauge that reads where you need it to read. The Gauge above works well for me.. Pan temps never get over 195F so they stay in usable range of the gauge for me.

Your temps are going to be much higher since you are reading them right after they get as hot as they will get (right after the converter)..

Since you have a working gauge, you need to figure what is the highest temp you need it to read and then find a gauge that will read high enough, but also read low enough for what you want.

An Oil Temp gauge would work just as good as a transmission temp gauge, but you will need to match the gauge to the sending unit.

Thanks for the chart it really helps. Im in the process of changing the fluid a little at a time. I dont know if it has ever been flushed so im doing it a little at a time till it gets changed. The fluid in it looks fine now (not burnt) but i would feel better with new fluid.

Im also wanting to change the transfer case fluid too. I see everyone saying ATF fluid is what you use. Any tips.

Sorry for being the dumb one here, but what is a remote filter ?

With the air temp here around 60 degrees and since I cleaned the fins in the radiator and trany cooler the tranny fluid runs about 140 now. When it was around 80 degrees the other day with dirty fins it ran about 160 to 180. So this is why i wanted a gauge that read lower.

I think the tranny remote filter is a very good investment. The reason i feel this way is that the filter is very easy to replace and can be done more often pretty cheap. Plus the filter catches alot more of the small particles in the oil that the pan filter dont catch. This also will add life to your tranny by the pump not pumping grit. I installed the perma-cool kit with the gauge set with it so i can monitor fluid temps. It is a very good kit and easy to install. Below is the link to the kit i installed:

Has anyone any details on the transfer case fluid change??

If your reading 180 on an 80 degree day I doubt your trans temp is going to go over 280. In that case the gauge above would work (100F to 280F, 270 degree sweep).

I guess with the low temp on the tranny that is a good thing. I believe this guage will do for now. Thanks for all the help.
