Does anyone know if there are any legality issues connected with having clear tail lenses? I would assume that it would be okay to have clear leses as long as the colored bulbs were being used, but I'm still kinda skeptical. Any input/help would be most appreciated! Thanks
well, others may be able to shed more light on the subject than I....but I am almost certain that the law requires every taillight to have a RED reflector built into it. Check with your state though as the laws vary from state to state.
clear taillights are officially NOT legal, however, you'd be hard pressed to find a cop that would waste his time giving you a ticket, unless you pissed him off! if you want legal, you have to go for the clear&red or altezza
definelty illegal, but if you have the clear with a nice red bulb you shouldnt have to many probs. Make sure it doenst light up pink. Also here in Cali, i believe the ticket is no longer a 10 dollar fix it ticket. I've heard something that it is going to points now on your record.

Hes right. The issue of getting a ticket isnt really about the clear lenses..since if you use the red bulbs (the LEDs work much better and dont fade to that pink) its the lack of a red reflector built into the lens. I've been wondering if you could be legal if you say mounted some sticky red reflectors on your ride in the rear, but that would probably not hold up to the cop on the side of the road, and you'd at least have to explain it all to a judge...only other thing I could think is a mountaineer miht be legal if you had those reflectors in the bumper...
Unless you plan on just using these once in a while, for show, or know the cops are really lax in your area, I highy suggest buying the "altezza style" with red bulb and lens reflectors...it looks cool, and even if you had your heart set on clears, its worth it in the long run to avoid the pricey and time consuming hassle they usually cause.
well here in maine, it seems to be totaly against the law, $10 fix it fine would be great, but up here try $120. it happend to a friend (he had been previously harassed errr.....warned) Thats why i didn't buy mine. I've been pulled over 6 times with my rear blackouts on and not even a mention. So i'll stick with them for a while. you can also do some cool stuff with the clear paintable kind. Altezza style = chrome paint, two circles unpainted? It's not true altezza, but for 91, it's the only thing close.
