I got up under an explorer I'm fixing to buy to check out the air shocks. I didn't hear a pump kick on when I stood on the bumper while it was running, I got up under there to listen for a click while the key was turned (no click), I don't see any electrical or hoses running to the rear shocks, I can't find a switch to turn it on/off, the message center doesn't bark at me about the pump. I'm thinking that either someone fully disabled the air suspension in all places or it never came with it to begin with. I didn't check the front but I'm thinking it's the same scenario.
Do any of you know if only select Limited models came with the air shocks OR they just didn't put them on that year? The rear sits at the right height but it rides like crap. Taking corners and bumps are almost unbearable. I'd like to replace the shocks with good ones but just want to make sure that is the best thing for me to do to make the ride quality better. It only has 87k miles on it.
Also, the AWD makes a whining noise during acceleration especially between 15-25mph and 65-75mph. Is this normal?
Your input is greatly appreciated!
