Airtex E2338m Quick Connect Help Needed

I have the Airtex fuel pump assembly E2338m in the tank. I don't understand how the included clips work with the quick connect fittings. If I use the original red clips, they go on fine but the large pipe moves back and forth about a 1/16 of an inch and less on the smaller pipe. When I connect them to the old stock pump with the original red clips, it fits nice and snug.

How do the new clips supplied with the Airtex pump? Are there supposed to be o-rings in the kit? I did not see any.

Vehicle is a 2002 Explorer XLT 4 door, 4.0 gas.

Reseated them again and they felt snug. Wonder what I did different than the few times before. Hope it does not leak! Tank is up, just need to tighten the driveshaft bolts and put gas in it.
