My 2002 Explorer has an intermittent starting problem. It has what I believe to be an after market alarm system. Usually, I push one of two grey arrow shaped buttons before starting the car. I noticed on occasion that if I didn't fully press the button before attempting to start it, it wouldn't start, and I had to disconnect and reconnect the battery to get it to start. Lately, it's not starting even after disconnecting the battery. I had to leave it disconnected for a half hour the first time, and over an hour the second and third time, I don't want there to be a fourth. I've also noticed that when it does start, the key has to go further than before to engage. I'd like to bypass the alarm altogether. I've installed and removed alarm systems before, but I'm not sure how this one is integrated into the circuitry. The theft light isn't flashing rapidly, which leaves me to suspect the key.
