I changed the battery in the wife's explorer a couple of weeks ago and now the alarm does not seem to work right. Before it would "chirp" when locking/unlocking the doors. Also, have a small light to the left of the steering wheel that seems to be part of the ignition kill. It is now independent of the alarm system. The remote still locks and unlocks all the doors as before, but the alarm does not chirp and the "Theft" light in the dash now flashes where it did not before. Can not find anything in the owners manual about this. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Is it an aftermarket alarm? On my '97 I don't have any chirp... I'd like one, but I assume your alarm is aftermarket... what type?

Sometimes aftermarket alarms have power leads that need to be attached to the battery posts. Maybe you missed one?

Something is condusing.... the Thief light is a factory alarm component, yet Gactory alarms do not churp.??????

I thought it was a factory alarm. Maybe not. The remotes look just like others I have seen. Only thing I see on the back of the remote besides lots of numbers and FCC ID are the letters TRW. My company van is a 98 Windstar and the remote has suttle differences, but no TRW on the back of it. Does this mean ours is an aftermarket? We bought it used about 4 yrs. ago and I do not remember the sales rep saying anything about an aftermarket alarm on it. Maybe its time to crawl under the dash and look for the black box.

The factory alarm uses the horn as the signaling device.

i have a after market alarm in my 92 x, when i disconnect the battery and hook it up again it seems to cause chaos with the alarm, its confused. check under the dash for a switch, with the truck off, push in the switch and push the arm button at the same time. that seems to reset mine.

It is probably a combo of an aftermarket and factory alarm system that was installed by the dealer. If you can go to the dealer that originally sold the vehicle, they may be able to help you out.
