I've seen a few explorers running around with out that little amber insert in the head lights. How are they removed if removible. I have a 98 sport and would like to take them out. Can i get a write up on how to do this from anyone?

Most likely they replaced their housings with "clear corners". You kind find aftermarket setups on eBay. Some people have had issues with the plastic yellowing from the Made in Taiwan parts, but I have them and they look as good as new at least 6 months after getting them.
I did read a thread on another site about replacing the reflectors and it's a LOT more work than it's worth. Clear corners aren't really that pricey (and even less pricey for you because you're in the US).
It is possible on second gen X's (yours is a second gen) to remove the little amber reflector. Search on here cause I know one of the guys did a write-up on it.
