Another quest ….

I have used FP3000 in the last 2 tanks of gas and I do observe a smoother idle.

I shall continue to experiment with FP3000.

Hey Aldive - is this the injector cleaner solution?

Al, if you have made any progress in getting your engine to idle better, please make a post. I recently bought a 93 with a 4.0 ohv, and I have to agree, the idle has been driving me crazy. Before I started reading these forums, I had performed a lot of needless maintenance. My engine does run better, but I have not been able to get it to idle like I feel it should. :exp: :thumbdwn:

i would like to hear any updates too!

Do you still think that the coil pack is a good improvement, I noticed it on the site yesterday when I spoke with Wayne?

The jury is still out as far as performance and gas mileage ). However, as far as improving the idle, it is well worth it.

I should have some mileage data very soon.

You all seem to be well versed in these idle issues, I was wondering if you could help me out with my 1992 EEC-IV OHV Explorer. Copied from my other thread:

http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1784206#post1784206

I have a 1992 Ford Explorer. Just last week all of a sudden the car sort of fell flat on its face with the normal amount of throttle input to get it moving (I usually start moving the car around 650-800rpm). At first I thought maybe the car was cold, but the car continued to do this from stop signs even at full heat. I then noticed that the idle was sort of erratic with sort of up and down twitching on the tach, minimal, but definately there. The engine does not respond to instant throttle inputs nearly as well as before. If I dab the throttle the engine stumbles a bit, raises up, bumps up and down. In 1st cruising if I floor it at 1500rpm, the wheels don't chirp anymore, it lugs a bit and then gets power down. The rest of the RPM range seems to be okay. There is no check engine light on.

I am thinking this is just a dirty or clogged IAC valve? I ran the DVOM on it and the terminals read 9.8 ohms which is between the 7-13 ohm autozone.com says it should be. Could the IAC still be the cause or should I be thinking more towards a vaccum leak or EGR system issue? What else might cause this issue? Thanks!

I need to tweak my plugs, I don't know about the indexing though. How much were the spacers for that?

Cool, $16, I forgot that detail. I see that they are Moroso parts like the tool I have. Hmm,

AL with all your money and time you could have built a Hydrogen Propelled Vehicle and go 100MPG per gallon.

That should be your new Quest, better yet lets make it a Explorer Forums project.

I'm itchin' for a screamin' demon coil now...$93 bucks doesn't seem bad...now all I have to do is explain to the wife why I need it.

Accel makes an excellent coil as well. Go here

Is there anyone that could post a picture of where this is at from a farther length? I can't find the elbow anywhere, took off the vanity cover. have a 2002 4.0 V6 Explorer

I have a similar idle issue, whenever in drive or reverse gears the RPMS drop and hover at around 500 and I experience a rough idle that you explained here. However, one weird aspect is it gets worse when I do things such as turn on the headlights or even turn on the HVAC at all.
