Any real users of Lock-Right and Aussie?

I don't see much difference between Aussie and Powertrax lockers as they both work on the rachet principle and they both are going to have some driveability quirks that will take some getting used to.
The two units, although look similar, are different. There's a great discussion thread on PBB about the Aussie vs. others lunchboxes.

But the bottom line is, if you're going to install a non-selectable locker, the degradation of how the vehicle handles on the road shouldn't be something you should be worried about because a non-selectable locker is not really road-friendly. If you want good off-road performance AND good road performance, invest in a selectable (OX, ARB, etc..).

I don't understand how you could "blow up" a front differential using a Lock-Rite locker.

the powertrax no-slips are different than the powertrax lockrites....lockrites are very similar to the aussie.

BTW, the lead engineer who designed the Aussie was also the lead engineer who designed the LockRite .. so consider the Aussie as LockRite version 2.0.

Well it didnt go boom, but there was alot of shrapnel in the housing. luckily the ring gear and pinion made it without damage, so i can sell those off for a couple bucks. but my no-slip locked up(you would think that is a good thing) but it did it on the street in 2wd. SO, i took the front dshaft out so i knew nothing could be applying the pressure on the driveline to lock it up..... did no good. So i bought a replacement spring pack, and it seemed to work. next day i drove to school(about 20 miles) 2/3 of the way there it started feeling funny on the interstate.... what do you know.... it locked up. so i said to hell with it and ran it locked. blew up (literally... it went bang) a cv shaft, got it home and removed the diff and chopped the cv's down. been 2wd ever since.

no-slip = ghey. i have no experience with the lock rite. might try one out in my new front end considering it is half the cost of a detroit.

edit: from all the great reviews, i would love to try an aussie out, but they don't make one as of yet for a d60

stay away from powertrax no-slips. both of mine suck. one exploded right out of warranty, and the other doesn;t do it's job. I seem to be one of the few that had problems with them, but from my experience, no-slips are worthless. I don't remember reading one bad review about an aussie though.

I'd highly disagree that they are junk. I've run several no-slips and Lock-Rites with absolutely no problems, and I've installed a bunch for other people in both axles with good results....It may have been an installation issue or something quirky about your axle tolerances...

I ran one for almost 60k in the back of my '01 Explorer both on and off road with no issues...IIRC Gerald has also run them for over 100k with very good results....

i have heard others criticize the no-slip, but i have also heard alot more people rave about them, which is the reason i purchased one for the front and the rear. like i said earlier, i may be one of those rare cases. May have been their 1 in a thousand defective product, or improper installation by the guy that did my gears (doesnt explain why it failed after i reinstalled it with new springs) my experience has been bad with them, so i personally will stay away. I let others know what happend so they were at least warned before they buy the product.

think about it, if you had a choice between 2 products, that both did the same thing, and 1 had 95% good feedback and the other had 98% good feedback with the same amount of reviews, which would you rather buy?

note: these are just made up numbers and in no way reflect the actual feedback on any product mentioned in this thread.

Depends on the quality of the reviews :)
