I got soooo p*ssed at my mechanic today when I had another problem with my front end. First i paid out my *ss for balljoints, ujoints, control arm bushings and brake pads, then after one hard day of wheeling I bust a ujoint and an axle shaft.
Then we are in Attica and I am leaking diffy fluid, so I think it's a seal.
Well I finally get in there today and they tell me the seal is ok but my front end is juiced cause he had a bunch of muddy brown watery gear oil. He couldnt tell me how it got in there though, what a freakin joke. Oh yeah then I find out the zerk busted off of my upper ball joint when I toasted the axle shaft yet they didnt pick up on that one either. All he has to say is that I am a clown to put a suspension lift on this cause I will just break more stuff. DUMASS
So I go up to this other shop that a 4wheelin buddy sent me to and I heard they know there sh*t on 4x4's, he said well sorta, then said why dont you bring your truck with a list in here and we'll see what you want done and we just want to get to know it first. He also said Explorer's are tough vehicle's from what he has seen. Well the reason for this thread is to find out about a motorvac carbonclean service he said that his truck gained 3mpg's from this, I dont care if anyone says they suck, I am risking the $150 to see what this mechanic is all about, If anyone has had success, let me know also or maybe I will be the first to push this product, who knows. What I do know is that I am impressed so far by this guy. HE took my name and address and even made notes on his computer that I am a serious 4wheeler and drive it hard. Instead of that last guy that shook his head when I said I do some mild offroading,

I had a Motorvac done on my VW Jetta. It did a nice job at increasing my overall power. I also got a bit better gas mileage out of it. I did notice a slight increase in power. I paid 75 dollars for the service.

You have to be careful about who you let do the service. The mechanic can cheat you on the service. There is a set amount of cleaning solution that should be used in the process. From what I hear the solution is expensive. Some people may charge you less for the service, but in turn use less of the solution, resulting in a not so spectacular job. Use someone you trust.

I was also told to get on the highway after it is finished and run for about 15 miles to blow the excess carbon out of the engine that didn't get flushed out.

Good Luck!!!!

Can something like this stuff be available at Auto Zone as a fuel additive?

Try a can of AMSOIL Power Foam. It's about $5 and it'll clean the entire upper air intake system. There have been several guys on the board who have tried it, in addition to me, who have reported a nice return of performance.

If you need a fuel additive, try AMSOIL Performance Improver (PI). It will restore at least 95% of the fuel injectors flow when used as directed the first time. Continued use will maintain peak performance. It only takes 1 ounce to 10 gallons of gas. I use it with every fill up.

i was thinking... and like when i use the throttle body cleaner, etc, and i pushes the bad stuff out my exhaust pipe, does it help ruin my 02 sensor on the way?

A motorvac is different than a fuel additive. It is a machine that is hooked into your fuel lines and runs a solution instead of gasoline. It cycles through your engine and burns slower than gasoline. It then runs through a strainer of sorts to remove the carbon deposits and back into your cylinders, and so on....

Motorvacs are more productive than additives because they don't rely on movement of the car to blow out carbon. A machine is in place to guarantee its removal. Motorvacs also help remove carbon from the cylinders, piston tops and intake, where as some additives won't.

If you were looking for an additive, Amsoil products are the way to go.

Dammit, I want this Amsoil everyone's talking about but I just don't see it here. What store do you guys go to get it?
