I know someone has it already, cant remember who though. I am considering getting one, I am wondering what all was involved in installing, and how well it works. I am tired of having to reach all the way to the dash for third! Please let me know.

There are several on us on here that I have one. I like mine a lot. The only thing I don't like about mine is that it vibrates and makes noise. But I seem to be the only one with that problem from what others have said. They work well. Install is easy also. Go for it.

How precise are your shifts now, I have a habit of clipping the gears a tad whenever I am getting on it. I need to get a better clutch, I am planning on a centerforce, I have a new, but stock type disc right now. Hopefully the combo of shifter plus better clutch will give me a strong even shift.

I didn't have trouble shifting before but they are even more precise now since it takes less time to shift since the gears are closer together. You also don't have to run the RPMs up as much since it's a shorter throw and takes less time to go from gear to gear.

I had a SUPER SLOPPY stock shifter (i.e. broken parts came out when installing the Hurst) so I can't tell you what it's like shifting with a 'functional' stock shifter, but I CAN tell you that the throws are much shorter, by a couple inches/shift, and there is a definite 'click' when going into each gear, no more 'throw it until you THINK it's in gear'....

It was the BEST MONEY spent for the 'overall' driving experience. I would even put it above the Throttle Body/Open Air Intake...which is a close 2nd.

As for the install, it was VERY straigt forward, just a couple of allen wrenches, and it was installed....took me about 20 min. total.

Does it bolt up to the shifter stub, or do you have to get into the internals of the trans to install?

Snoborder88 is right, I do have one in mine. It installs right on top of the transmission. Nice, quick install. I love mine. Combined with my Centerforce Dual Friction clutch, it's shifts nicely.

first mod i did to the explorer I just got, helped immensely.

Did ya'll have to remove the shifter plate thats bolted to the floor? Mine is now covered in 3 layers of dynamat, so that could be a royal pain.

Do you mean the inspection plate or the shift boot? The boot comes off, but the inspection plate stays.

I guess its called the inspection plate, the plate that bolts to the bare metal floor around the shifter. If it stays, thats a relief.

yeah, that stays

I think ya'll have sold me on getting it. Looks like time for another order from summit, I need a steering stabilizer also. Thanks for everyones input, I will let you know how it turns out.

I've also got one and I love it.

Mine buzzed a bit too. Turned out the mounting screws loosened up on the shifter just a tiny bit. I pulled them out, Locktited them and haven't had a problem since.

The stick buzzed because it was loose where it attached to the stub coming out of the tranny. I didn't know that the screws had backed out slightly until I tried to tighten them up.

I was getting ready to order the new shifter yesterday, when I thought of something. I am kicking around the idea of a body lift, and am wondering if a body lift would work with the custom shifter? From what I hear, the shifter extension is for stock, is that true?
