I did have that but I upgraded to 3.73. It was managable, but still very noticable. It seems if you have a manual you can deal with it easier, but with the auto your accel will suck and on the fwy you'll be under the powerband. So you'll probably want to do a gear swap.

I have 3.55's and 31's and I hate it. But I have a manual transmission so I notice it a lot more. Get 4.10's.

i dont have the time or money to do a 3.73 swap, but i plan to do some engine mods to increase horsepower, think this will help?? but i am getting 31's in about 2 months so i really need help on this topic!

3.27's with 31's here. They suck, but it's bearable. 3.73's would be ideal for everyday driving IMHO. But I do have a set of front and rear 3.73's, AND a limited slip carrier, $250 shipped to your door. :D

Yup 3.27s and 31s here ,I didnt think it was that bad, but im not in a rush to get any where, after it shifts to overdrive(auto) the rpms are kinda low. I would definatly go to 3.73s but its not in the budget any time soon . Let me just say its manageable.

The bang for the buck of the engine mods won't nearly approach that of the gear swap. I suggest you take up the offer for that full 3.73 set, install will probably run you about $400.

hey bigDerk, didnt you have your explorer for sale, not your Ranger??

anyway, do you think if i got a diablo chip and programmed it to rev higher on overdrive that it would be a better bet?? i just got a lot of money from my grandmother today for christmas and i already plan to buy a kkm and a Flowmaster..

and one more thing (a question for bigDerk) my friend just got a nice and new 99 ranger (4x4 package and everything!!), and i was wondering if you can do a tt and shackle lift for it. I said i'd do a little lift for him and i need to know!!

The KKM, Flowie, and Chip will definately help, but it won't make up for the fact that in first and second gears your engine will have to work a lot harder to put the power down. There is no substitute for gearing, transmission or otherwise. Even with my supercharger, I still felt the difference in power. It made it a lot more bearable, but still annoying. During low speed/high torque situations, the engine and tranny protested greatly. You'll wear your tranny out faster with high gearing and high power than with lower gearing and lower power.

so Alec, are you saying i should keep my stock horsepower and just go with the gear swap.. but hey 750$ for a gear swap is still a lot of money!! but how much more horsepower do you think i will get out of a Flowy, KKM and chip??

bigDerk, i dont know if i can take you up on that deal, sounds great but i donno??

Might take you from 160 to 170-175, maybe 180. Actually the gains are probably less than that, but it's great seat-of-the-pants power. Definately worth doing. But like I said, nothing makes up for RPM.

hey i think i read somewhere that if you take out the complete third members and bring them into the shop, the price for the install will be drastically reduced, is this true will somebody tell me??

I was selling the Explorer, but can't afford to keep the Ranger. Sucks, but I gotta keep the one that's paid for already.

I did the torsion twist on the Ranger and it leveled it out nicely. For the rear I would use either a 3" block (to replace the stock block, its like 2" I think) or an add-a-leaf instead of a shackle.

allright thanks man, i think i'll have time next weekend to do it for him, my dad also got some sweet new tools, including a 1/2" impact wrench, the 1/4" wasnt cuttin it for him.........

I have 31 x 10.5 on stock rims. They fit fine but lost lots of power after putting them on. I plan on going 32 x 11.5 now that I did my coil spacers and warrior shackels. I'll have the room now, but the 3.27 won't cut it. I plan on 4.10 when I get my Alaska PFD in October!!

The KKM, Bosh platnium plugs, and 8.5 plug wires helped. A superchip, headers/exhaust and gears will set it off just right!

Hey i just thought I would let you all know, that I have 3.73 gears stock in my explorer. I just ordered 4.56 gears because I am running 35x12.50 Dick Cepek mud terrains and I want more power when driving on the street. I will be installing them myself (i work at a ford dealer). There is nothing wrong with the gears that I am removing. If any of you want them I will sale them dirt cheap. Let me know. I just sold a whole set of 32 x 11.00 A/T K/O BFgodrich tires for a $150 yesterday and they only had about 7k miles on them. SO when I say cheap I mean cheap let me know if your interested.

hey msupertek,
If you still have those gears, how much would you want? I might be interested in them.

hehe 3 73's here... and 35's..... haha

Try 3.27's and 33's that really sucks, its alright around town but the highway sucks:nono:
