Man Troll, i can just imagine the looks people get when you wanna race em or sumthin, their like "hell no, damn explorer", then they race, and you blow their socks off, i would pay to see those looks, before and after the race, who expect to see and Explorer do that, the ULTIMATE sleeper...

A supercharged explorer will still get burned by any turbo charged or supercharged high performance import car, and there are LOTS of those here in LA. Then again there are also alot of ricers, who make their cars LOOK fast but are slower than Sh_t.

Were you refering to a 5.0 sploder with a s/c in general, or Troll's? Cause alot of people oogle over his, cause it's more than just an s/c. 500+hp 500+ ft/lbs tq I believe... Check out his site: http://www.speedfreak.cc/

if you do the math for the drivetrain losses, Troll's hittin right at 600 at the motor with the bottle OFF! and, last i heard, he has done even more. you show me a bunch of tuners that can run with 600+hp and proly a 150 shot of juice on top. fact is, there arent many.

if you think that any high hp import cars are a threat you need to check in with use because he has put down more then one 600 supra here in miami. they cant pass him till over 120 so go figure. that last dyno with the stock intake neted a flat hp curve obove 500 hp from the start until it peak at 520 at 6000. we have since changed to a intake that is making a lot more power and now we have not sprayed it on the dyno it only has a 50 shot but it should make 600 to the back tire with out spray.

I love my juice kit...take it over a supercharger anyday..cheaper too!! Its amazing what results a 100 shot can produce!!

can someone plz explain the difference between a turbocharger and a supercharger?

Simply: a turbo uses exhaust gases to spin a turbine which accelerates the incoming air and compresses it into the engine. A supercharger uses a pulley driven from the crankshaft pulley to spin the turbine and force the air in.

That's the simplest way to put it, but it can get very complicated talking about turbines, turbo lag, types of superchargers, etc.

Try this link for lots of info:

thx alec. that cleared some things up :)

i still have one question....what made you choose a supercharger instead of a turbo? it seems that turbo lag can be eliminated.....or at least worked with. And why does the supercharged make a whining sound? does the turbo do this too?

thx for your patience :D

you can hear a turbo whistle also, but a supercharger's whistle is more prominent.

the reason no one has a turbo on an explorer is this: have you ever seen a turbo kit for an explorer? hehe. youd have to buy the turbo (or turbos if you wanted a twin turbo setup) and it would have to be all custom - which could be done, but turbos are also more expensive than blowers.

Holy crap now I take what I said about your explorer gettin burned back. I thought you only dropped in a supercharger, didn't know you had the custom cams, headers, NOS, airflow sensor etc. etc. VERY IMPRESSIVE. But James T, I don't know if you've been to LA but if you look closesly there are MANY cars that run over 600hp, not to mention the cars are half the weight on an explorer WITH a lower center of gravity.

Most turbo setups do alot more than whistle, my first Talon's turbo was LOUD... You could here it trying to suck the hood through the intake, fire off the blowoff valve to the atmosphere, and I ran a dump tube for the wastegate, so it got REALLY loud at max boost. Turbo's themselves aren't really that expensive, they're WAY cheaper than blowers.

well, yeah, you can definitely hear the blow off's, but you can hear em pretty good on blowers, too.

i dont know about the turbos on talons, i just remember a friend of a friends grand national. you could hear that thing whistle all the way down the street, but you could hear another friend of mine's blown mustang for a longer distance (im talking about the whistle from the power adder, not the engine or exhaust note.)

no matter how you set it up, a turbo setup is gonna be more expensive than a blower setup. for example, mustang turbo kits are a lot more expensive than mustang blower kits. if you decide to do a custom setup, heh, the sky's the limit on spending, really.

Just to clarify, both turbos and superchargers are commonly referred to as blowers. When using the term, it must be in context and understood which one you mean.

As for a turbo setup for the 4.0, it would take a lot of work. Cameron started the project and researched it a lot. He determined it would be about $10k to twin turbo the 4.0 OHV. Basically the hard part is in the plumbing.

i never heard of a turbo being called a blower, so when i say blower i mean supercharger.

I could put a turbo on an X. All I need is the truck and some money. I thought about it when I was doing my truck but the added expense was a little more than I wanted to spend at the time. I wish someone would sack up and let me put a turbo on their X.

it can be done for way less then ten grand if they are spending that much they must have god making his headers out of titanium or something. any ways we have a lot of cars in miami with over 600 hp that is not a problems. the thing is the explorer hooks up so much better then buy the time they hook up you are long gone. no one here in miami has less then 18 on there 600 to 800 hp supra's so none of them hook up intime to catch him untill over 120 so you go find a stretch of road long enuf for them to catch troll and if they can beat him that is why me and troll also have a mustang.
