I'm curious how many people have extended their Explorer warranty ??
FORD ESP

My wife's Explorer XLT is two years old with 32K. It's had a torque converter and other related tranny items replaced on it...already. So I bit the bullet and bought an extended warranty through Ford. It goes to 7yrs/100K, cost just over $2,000 and has a $50 deductable. I generally don't bother with warranty stuff but I figured this thing has alrady had over $1k worth of work done to it and it's only two years old. Typical Ford. in fact, it's going in in a few weeks because the front struts are squeeking over bumps. They're replacing them under warranty. Oh well. In a way I hope it pays for itself....well, maybe not ;)

I did. Some of the best money I have ever spent. Even saves on car rentals when yours go in the shop. I have saved 5 times the amount it cost in repairs alone.

I bought the Ford ESP for my 2000 XLS, and my results were mixed. Shortly after I bought the truck the tranny went, and they replaced it under the warranty. They gave me a rental during the 2 weeks it was in the shop, and it didn't cost me a penny. That was definately nice, but I think I would have been covered by the NYS lemon law anyway.

The only real problem I had with the ESP was that you feel obligated to take your vehicle to the dealer whenever there is something wrong with it. I had a $100 deductable on my plan, so every time it went in it would cost me. I had the right side ball joints replaced one time, and I'm pretty sure I could have had that done for less than $100.

Another thing to keep in mind is that the warranty depends on the dealership agreeing that there is actually something wrong with your vehicle. I had problems with the power steering, it was getting harder to turn and it was so loud you'd swear it had no fluid in it. I got them to replace the steering pump, but not the rack, which was what really needed to be done.
