2015 Ford Explorer Sport
Hello,

2015 sport with about 140000 miles. Makes this noise when its cold outside and engine is cold. Only does it while driving, not when vehicle is stopped.

Stops making the noise when engine is at operating temp. Burning smell also noted but do see it’s leaking a bit of oil so Im not sure if it’s related.

can you put that video on google drive? cant see videos on EF. if its a load based cold thing could be a mani leak, but theres also a good amount of possible causes

if it can be viewed ublically any site works, youtube, vimeo, etc. just have been having issues with those embedded directly to EF. probably just me ont his issue tho

Mine has been doing this for about 6 months now lol. Changed front brakes as suggested from dealer no luck. About to change rear brakes just to be sure. 2 other members said it was their half shaft which is basically your CV. I would check all the ones you have and make sure the boots aren’t torn and leaking grease and make sure no grease is on the inner wheel. If you find out for sure what your issue was please post the solution. Mine will start usually after I have been driving for a few minutes then go away after another few minutes. Only does it while moving and for me usually applying the brakes makes the noise stop sometimes. Once it stops it won’t happen for the rest of the day unless I let the car sit for a while. Very weird issue for sure.

just saw this. this weird!!!!!!! speculation, since i havent run across that, but maybe the CV possibly, i wouldnt think diff noise.

I have been having the same noise on my 2018 Explorer Limited. Starts making noise a few minutes into a drive and lasts for a minute or two. Really annoying. Once it’s done it won’t come back during that drive. I don’t believe it’s related to the cold since it was doing it this summer as well. I have taken it to multiple shops and they can’t explain it. Hoping someone else has had the issue and found a fix for it.

Welcome to the Forum Jonathan.
You said it won't happen again during that drive. If you park it and let it sit for a while will it happen again or is it good for the day?

Mine won’t happen again during that drive but if I let the truck sit for a while and drive it, the process starts over with the noise reoccurring. I feel like we all have the same mysterious issue as I saw a few others online experiencing the same thing.
