What did you have before?

probably nothing..... and a roll cage isnt something you just run by kragen's and pick up

well you are in CA, so start calling local shops, everyone and there mom in CA has a cage. :)
Your question is pretty general however.
There are roll cage kits you can buy, but the prefered method is custom fab = local shop

I'm in the market for a custom cage as well...what kind of prices should i be looking at for a full cage? I only have one shop that i have been able to get into contact with and they wanted $1200 for a simple cage tied into the frame at 4 places. Is this about right? Should i keep looking?

Keep looking.

There are so many kinds, from full chasis cages tied into the cab and frame for high speed rolls, to light rollover protection with a couple of hoops and triangulated supports.

You really need to research cages and functions before you shop for the one you want.

now Jegs sells kits, that can work really well and will save you from having to bend the tubes.

You can do a search on this forum for cages, and find a bunch of info, also a GREAT source for cage design pictures, materials, construction and why is the desert scene guys Dezertrangers.com Race-desert.com etc

there is ALOT to consider and you should be informed about what you want.

IMO $1200 is high for a 4 point cab cage (light roll over protection) But steel prices are HIGH right now, and in your part of the country there are not alot of fab shops who do them I am guessing.

I will be building my own with help from experienced friends.

I know exactly what i want, its just that im guessing the guys around here dont see much but Heeps and thats all they know much about building for. Ill probly end up just waiting a while until i can find someone who can build it for cheaper.

Take a look at DiffwhackDaddy's truck.. He's got a custom cage in his truck. You will not find any off the shelf, I suggest making a custom one.

I disagree with 410. That price isn't bad, considering it's a business, the steel prices are way high, and you live in NC. (it's not the offroad mecca that SoCal is).

When I got mine a couple years ago, I got quotes for $1000-$1400, before a found a place for $800, where I had it done. Granted, mine is a cab exo on a Ranger, but still. If I went to the same place today, I'd bet it would be 1400 or more.

Your best bet is to find a guy with a bender in his garage, and knows how to use it.
