Does anyone know if the APIM warranty was extended in Canada?
Thanks

That was a photo that I took at the 2011 NA Ford Fleet Preview inside the Dearborn MI HQ Product Development Center.

During the customer Ride & Drive they had an Explorer cut in half to show the insides.

Thanks for that Sgt1411. For some reason I thought it was a photographer that Ford had brought in just for this. I'll be sure to give you credit when posting any of the pics.

No credit required

Im back there June 3-5th for same event hopefully I will have more photo's to share

Hmm, it would be good to hear something from Ford directly about this APIM issue. After all the trouble consumers have gone through, it'd be nice if Ford just opened up about what's wrong with the APIM and what they are going to do about it besides just extending the warranty because fixing a part doomed to fail again is not very smart.

NO, THE APIM has to be returned back to ford and ford sends them back to the manufacture. but they are being looked at the 2014 have the redesign APIM. AND WORD HAS IT THAT A NEW UPGRADE IS COMING OUT WHEN 2014 EXPLORER ARE RELEASED.

Then if its only a hardware issue why does the aftermarket nav system that works with the current hardware seem to have none of the same issues?

I hope your right because MFT is the only negative in my Ex

Wait, the APIM has already been redesigned?

What I find strange is the fact that the two I have work perfectly. The 11 had some minor stuff in the beginning. All is well with both now. There's definitely something up though. I think it's judt Fords way of saying, " hey we messed up and sent it to production too early." Sorry for using you all for guinea pigs. LOL

What aftermarket Nav system? I'd like to get nav on my MFT. I didn't think you could get it aftermarket.

The link below explains the extended coverage.
For those reading this and who are not familiar with the Accessory Protocol Interface Module (APIM) it is the brains of the SYNC/MyFord Touch system and consists of 1,062 components most of which are located on the main circuit board which is enclosed within a 2 piece aluminum cover.

My APIM was working very well until 2 weeks ago and is now dead. The APIM replacement period has now expired on my 2011. Is there any way to get Ford to honor the replacement or am I stuck paying $1000+ on their faulty equipment?

I'm guessing that you are out of luck in trying to get the APIM replaced under the extended warranty on it. You can try contact Ford Service using the options below.
p: 800.392.FORD

f: facebook.com/FordExplorer facebook.com/Ford
You could also see if you can pick up a used APIM but it may need programming. There are 2 refurbished and programmed on eBay. 1 with navigation ($700) and 1 without ($600).

Thank you Peter.

So the dealer told me yesterday the issues I have been having with Sync MyTouch unable to update and my backup camera intermittently going out has to do with a bad APIM. I am unfortunately outside of the 5 year extension ford provided. Any options here? Is it safe to buy an APIM from a 3rd party? Ford wanted close to $1,000 to replace the APIM. Ridiculous! 3rd parties have it for roughly $600. I know I can install a new one myself, but wanted to check with you all first before tearing my car apart. Thanks.

Read your PM and get back to me. I have not replaced center stack on Explorer but my Expedition was pretty easy. Took about an hour to switch from the MFT/SYNC2 to SYNC3.

All,

Great news, I was just able to successfully update Sync 2/MFT to the latest version recommended by Ford (version 3.10 in my case). Wanted to provide the solution to my problem below in hopes that it will help others moving forward. The solution may seem obvious to some of you, but when I was comparing various Ford.com solution pages and some of what I read on here it was conflicting at times.

SOLUTION
- Download, to your desktop or chosen folder, the recommended .zip file from www.syncmyride.com
- Extract the .zip file to your desktop or chosen folder. The extracted file (depending on what version Ford recommends you) should be named something along the lines of (EA5T-14D544-BA)
- Open the newly extracted folder to view the three items (SyncMyRide Folder, autoinstall.lst, DONTINDX.MSA). Picture attached.
view

- These are the three files you want to place directly on an empty/file-free/formatted USB drive. Ford suggests formatting the USB to FAT32, which is typically the default.
- With the USB drive loaded with these three separate files, plug into your car's USB drive and the update should start automatically.

Issues I was running into before I came to this solution
- Plug USB in and nothing happens
- Update starts, but cancels out after awhile with a message that my USB Drive is bad
