I rarely get on explorerforum.com unless I have trouble and that has been a rarity. I have never had a motor problem, and never had a transmission problem.
I have one of the rare jewels in a minefield of first gen problematic explorers. I sit now in my 94 XLT picking up Wi-fi at a local Arby's. I am more apt to sit in my truck than walk inside. I am currently sitting at 385,590.4 miles. She has seen Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Mississippi, Louisiana, Kentucky, Ohio, Michigan, Indiana (It has practically seen every highway inside of IN), Illinois, and Missouri. She has treated me as well as a 14 year old vehicle can, and just wanted to spread the word of a wonderful truck.

I shall be shooting video as I cross 400,000 for all of you! Even though you cannot tell that it is at 400,000 because of the lack of the 100,000 mile ticker. What was that all about? Did Ford honestly think that the vehicle wouldnt make it that far?

I'm glad to see someone else is up there too..

We are also past 380k :)

I've been using a label maker to add the first digit for a while :)

I love telling people we are over 100k miles past a quarter million miles. :) Granted, I built the motor at 355k miles and this is the 5th transmission (this trans has 90k miles on it but I'm hoping this 700r4 lasts)

Very nice. And I thought that my parents expo was doing good. Its creeping up on 190k with entire original drivetrain. I mean the clutch lasted 140k so something has to be going right. :D

Mark- those stickers... Classic! Congrats to both of you!!!

^ Yeah the stickers are great i wouldnt have thought about doing that, and yeah what kind of schedule did you follow like aerostar man said i would like to follow it to a T...

Funny - I have a 94 XLT and I just past 270,000 KM. My truck has the 7th digit. I wonder why the US models only have 6 digits?

I didn't do anything special...

I change the oil every 5-8k miles (when it got 1 quart low).. I always use Mobil 1 synthetic (10w-30) with either K&N filter, Mobile 1 filter or Motorcraft (I started with K&N, went to mobile 1 and then switched to motorcraft).

I'd change the oil early if I went wheeling in dirt/sand (like Glamis/etc)

I repacked/replaced (if necesary) the bearings every 3 oil changes. When I did the bearings I checked the brakes.. I always changed the brakes early (I only every got metal to metal once.. when a brake pad exploded).

I used a k&n drop in filter.. I switched back to paper recently as I was having to clean/charge the k&n too often (I can shake out the paper ones once before I have to change them).

The transmissions (a4ld) never did well for us.. If I remember correctly..
First rebuild was at 185k miles or so
2nd was at 236k I think
the 700r4 went in at 290k (took two transmissions to get one that was built right)..

Now the trans fluid gets changed every other oil change (10-20k).. I just drain the pan and refill.. I'm chaning the pan filter once a year at most.. I change the external filter every time I change the fluid.

I think thats it...

You got me beat by 100K miles.

I have quite a few vehicles at 300K miles.

400K....pretty impressive. My 'X' has had 4 tranis in it. Not impressed considering this is not the vehicle I use for 'hard labor'.
The Stump pulling, Firewood hauling, boat pulling is all done with my Jeep CJ5 and Chevy StepSide Truck

we used to have two 300+k vehicles..

I gave away the '95 neon at 305k miles...

I'm working on getting a new DD (high mpg) so I can retire the X as a DD.. that new to me car will problably have 150k miles on it.. and will hit 300k in < 4 years..

heck.. the '06 mustang (got it october 05) now has over 80k miles on it.

My '97 EX will be hitting the 300k mark this summer

Same engine & tranny, with no major work. I can't believe it myself.

Just past a quarter million miles

Was just checking posts trying to figure out my own sometimes start sometimes not problem when I came across these mileage posts and thought for my very first post, I would add my own. My odo reads in km and VIN says it rolled out of the Louisville Kentucky plant? Anyway, I took a pic of my odo (lousy pic with my cell ), oh, can't seem to post a pic? Oh well, it reads in km.

421288.0 km

and works out to 261788.0 MILES.

Ok, figured out how to add pics ( I think ) and I guess it was my 2nd post. 1st was to an intro to the forum.

I am reading some where around 345000 right now. I swaped the orginal motor at 324000. Its was still running but had the time and did it

The Gold 92' is at 195k on original engine and trans. The white 92' is at 140k with original trans and jasper reman. engine.

I'm right at 196,500 on my 94 with super tiny drips here and there but she's strong yet. Good job on yer near 400k rig. I'm sure she has another 100k or more in her.

thats great with the label maker!
My BII is approaching 300K miles (4000 to go)
I have had my share of engine and tranny's though! LOL

I know, I'm digging up an old post, so I apologize in advance. I'm just curious how you guys can claim such awesomeness on your trucks when they're on 2nd, third, and even fourth engines, transmissions, etc. That seems like cheating.
My '98 honda Accord has 336,000 miles on it. Original engine, original transmission. It burns or leaks zero oil. To me, THAT is reliability. Am I missing something?
This is just what I found when searching for high mileage Explorers, so I could see how long my '03 will last potentially.

Actually the folks that posted they had engine work was when their trucks were in the 300k range except for 410 but he had been experimenting with his BII. And transmissions its typical for them to give out by 200k so yes it is awesomeness that their trucks still had that high mileage. Plus your honda is a little car that doesn't get worked like a light truck such as the Explorer does.

It all depends on how you drive isn't it? Most 1st gen explorer owners I know drive their trucks harder than most car owners. I've personally broken a few cars when I tried to push them as hard as my X. No doubt 336K is quite a feat as well but you have to compare apples to apples, not apples to peach pits
