After you put the chip on duct tape it to the computer.

Here's where I mounted my switch... I like it ;)

Also, scrubb those contacts and use rubbing alcohol and qtips to clean. They will look shiny like a brand new penny... NOT silver. You will know when you are done ;)

thanks for all the tips:) , I was also wondering if when I re-install the computer if the chip is going to make contact with the bar inside the slot and if so will it cause the chip to move around on the contacts.

Thanks again everyone.

The chip hugs the computer very nicely. I saw no way that the chip would cause problems... just duct tape it down or electrical tape... and it will be all good :)

Ohh yeah... before you do all the re-installing and taping... put the chip on and hook the computer back up.... make sure the chip is in a custom program if you have a switchable chip... and try to start. I would be a pain to install the whole thing to find out FORD has reflashed your ECU or your service port is disabled ;)

I have nearly a half tank of 87 left, should I just fill up with 91 or wait til it gets lower and run it on the stock program? Also, if I start it up with the chip to see if the port is disabled or something...would I need 91 for that or since I'll only be running it for a few seconds or just use the 87 I already have.

sorry, but a bit off topic...

how are the gain with this chip? Do they make a chip that will let you use 87 octane? I am more interested in modifying the electronic shifting as ford's electronic shift control SUCKS!!

sigh...

For the rest of you with flip chips,
where do the rest of you put the switch ?

Here are my comments I posted today on the recent Apten chip buy page.
Harold

Got my chip working in my 99 AWD V8 Mounty. Brian me the pictures to enable the jumpers. This is very detailed soldering, not recommended unless you work in this field.
I got the dual chip, 87 performance and 91 performance.
I am very impressed with improvement in 87 performance. Very quick off the line now, even with partial throttle. Shift points are firmer. Stays in gear longer during acceleration. ( This is same effect my old Cherokee had with the economy/power button). Downshifts are better.
Before my stock 92 Sport was quicker off the line, up to about 30. My V8 was actually a little sluggish, but not any more. I'm not a hot rodder, primarily looking for improvements in driveability and gas mileage. I'll check mileage over the next month to compare with my past results.
At same time replaced air filter, and cleaned MAF (2 days before).

Cleaning the contacts well is a great tip. I mounted my switch in the glovebox.

Whats the power increase in horses?

hsinc,

Thanks for the info! I am thinking of seriously getting one now...just the 87 performance. Like you, I am trying to improve drivability.

I put my switch on the low side of the dash, a little to the right of my right knee when sitting behind the wheel.
It's out of the way and yet accessible if I reach there.

I put it there because it was easy to get to, and there was no metal there (1st gen only) behind the dash plastic to interfere with the install.

PMd you Rhett w/ a 1st gen question.
