I know this is ridiculous, but what do I need to do to replace my ashtray light bulb?

Also, believe it or not, but the steering wheel cruise control buttons are melting (the black part). Anyone else experience this??? I literally have black tarlike melted plastic on my fingers where the black part once was, so now the whole button lights up, instead of where the words were..... How do I replace just the buttons? Am I just wierd?

Welcome to the site!

I don't know how your cruise buttons could be melting, but you can pick up new button assemblies at your dealer or through www.fordpartsnetwork.com

Your ashtray bulb is a little tricky to replace. I assume you have the full center console with the pockets, tray, and cupholders? That's what I have. Anyway, first remove the front console trim (2 pockets) by pulling up and out. They should pop out easily, Then, you have to gently pull up on the main body trim of the console. It will resist, but it will eventually pop out. You may need to remove the kleenex box from the rear of the console and push up from there too. Then just take the bulb out from it's socket and find a new one. Then replace it and pop everything back together. I found it was always tricky getting that bulb to stay in its mount while putting the black piece back on. Also, the depth of the ashtray sometimes interferes with remounting, you really need to force the whole piece back on. It's actually not that hard, but the main console piece can be a pain. Don't be afraid to force it a bit.

Or, you could just forget about it  I ended up discarding that bulb and using the power leads to light up my aftermarket gauges in the center console.

Good luck!
