Attack on Attica II

Orange

Looks bad ass, I can't wait. Say Riff, I want to try the orange trail. Before you guys give me **** at least let me try it. I don't have lockers, I know, but I am confident and my pucker level is pretty high. We'll see, just wanted to let you guys know if anyone else wants to try it. I know Kampy does and I might just follow him. This may be the last 4x trip of the year so I want to make the most of it....cool?

Matt, my winch is only 9000lb, I don't know if it will pull two vehicles through bumper deep mud.

I walked part of the trail the last time we were there and didn't even attempt it with new 33's and lockers. It really is pretty wicked. We'll just have to eye it up when we get there and see how it "feels". You might not be quite so energetic after you get a look at it.

And like I said in an earlier post, talk to your insurance man about dropping that deductible way down.

Later guys.

I hear ya Kampy, I just want to give it a try. You have a point though and I respect your opinion. If your up to it, maybe we could walk it a few hundred yards to see what we'll get into.

I looked at the link again, damn those zukes have wicked articulation.

These were mostly highly modified Zookis. Just the avarege Joe won't be able to even get on Orange with that 6-8 feet vertical drop at the start. I can live with going down that drop, getting around some trees but mud is something that might stop me. To be honest, once you go down that hill there is no way you're coming back up - backwards!
Either you're into some extreme wheeling, then get something you can beat on no matter what or if you're like me, enjoying moderate off-roading then you can take even a stocker and still enjoy the Badlands. For me, Green will be plenty. Unless, I get lockers front and back, another 5" suspension lift, 35" mud tires, winch and a different rig, Sport perhaps with it's shorter wheelbase. Perhaps......

I need to prep the truck a bit, modify some things... well....

Later,
:)

Just getting back up to speed after vacation.
What is the dates for ATTICA.
I am not real busy right now so I might be able to attend.

hey dennis! glad to see you made it back from colorado ok. any new scars? any broken parts?

the plan for attica is october 14 and 15. a lot of us are going to be staying overnight at the ramada in danville.

think you can make it?

The trip was great. Got my pics back today, I will get them up by the week end.
I had no problems at all with my truck, did have a flat tire on my trailer about 10 miles east of Cody Wy. It is a desert there. I am going to try to make it to ATTICA, I am starting to do uppr and lower ball joints now, along with brakes and u-joints, just a little preventive mantinance.

You have some good points Andre, I think I might use a little discretion and just go for the green. I was going off the pics I saw and the mud thing is a problem. The sand and green trail I think will suffice.

Oh come on!! I was planning to do the orange regardless! only if someone else will go with me, though. (kampy, thats you) i will give the park a call to see if there are any places to get out of the orange trail, like there were on the green.

from what i remember, though we only walked a small section of it, mud and body clearance wern't that big of a problem. i thought that the thing that you were worried about, kampy, was the turns around trees with your longer wheelbase. for the mud down that trail, i do remember them saying that there are always ways around the deep stuff. so, we can figure it out when we get there, i just don't want to do it alone...ya know?

Orange or not to orange, that is the question...

I don't know what came over me in that last post?!!

Like I said, I want to TRY the orange trail. I'll go with you Riffman. With a couple of heads we can figure out almost any obsticle. Count me in Riff......ehem...again.

So, lets see, that makes the list of runners for the Orange:

Any takers?

Riff, if it rains the week before. There will be LOTS a mud on the green. I got pics of just headlights peeking out of the mud holes. Thats with 33's and 6 inches of lift. You find that stuff while playing around.:D. Lets just wait and see when we are there. It is always a blast watching you extreme guys test the water:-)

extreme...im not extreme....im just in the process of loosing my marbles (my brain for those of you whos minds are in the gutter....) ;)

hey matt...congrats on making the top 20 posters!! you officially need a life like the rest of us!!

For all I care it could be raining or snowing; it's not gonna stop me from heading to the park. Last time we were there it rained pretty hard on our second run; things got a little slippery especially by that wall which all the Land Cruisers were trying to climb. Kampy did get up there but at least for me this was one radicall move.
Well, we'll see how it all looks when we get there. Riff, you can call and ask them what you want but as far as I can remember they were not too reliable with their information. Mud? no problem, Orange? mostly stocker can go no problem. Hah?!? remember?

Later,

:)

ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!

I AM SOOOO F**KING PISSED!!!!!!!!!! THIS F**KING BRACKET IS BACK ORDERED UNTILL NEXT WEEK!!!! F**KING SH*T!!!! heads are going to start rolling here.....im pretty pissed, in case you couldn't tell...it there any way to make the rear end work with out the rear box kit? anybody anybody? please?!? HELP!!

hey andre....where is the vw bug thing here in normal? where is it being held at?

oh yeah....pardon my french....

[Edited by riffman on 09-29-2000 at 06:37 PM]

box thing?

What box thing are you talking about for the rear end Riff?

matt, its the box kit that is put on your axle, and the springs go over it. thats what achieves the rear SOA.

Try calling around to local 4x4 shops and see if they have any extras that you could get from them. I'm not sure how different they are from different vehicles. Heck i'm not even sure i know what i'm talking about. It's that black thing that goes between the axel and the leaf spring right? I don't know it's worth a try.

Riff, Bug Fest is on the 8th of October and I hope to attend it. It's gona take place on Fort Jesse Rd. (if there is such a road). Then 14th to Attica and next weekend to Oklahoma City. Man I'm gonna stay busy this Fall. I'll let you know if I'm 100% for the Fest.

Explorer content-------> call a few performance and 4x4 shops and see if they suply these parts seperatly. Chicago is too far for you so I won't even mention the shop I usually buy from.

Good Luck!

:-)

Well, doing an SOA is more involved than just buying the spacer block. You need to get that flat bracket with the hole or pin for the spring to seat into right? The blocks you can get anywhere and they are usually aluminum. I installed a set in my Ranger, but it was already SOA.

You could always just take off your springs, disconnect the break likes, drop the axle, turn it 180* and then you have your SOA. You could even use the same parts just inverted. That would give you even more travel with your shocks too. Just make sure the leaf bolt is short enough to fit in the locking hole without hitting the axle. That would work wouldn't it? Only problem is the brake line fitting would be in the wrong spot......I dunno riff. Sounds like it would work.

Andre, where do you buy from in Chicago?
