Attack on Attica II

Ok...uh...where do I start.

Riff, this sucks dude. Maybe they can line it up at the shop? I want to come down there friday night, but by the time I got there it would be 10pm and I am not sure if Rich is ready either. Damn, I wish I lived closer bro.

Pete, my name is Matt, sorry about that. I don't mind side tracking, but I don't wanna get there too late. Just tell your buds to make sure they are ready so when we get there they can jump in your/their rigs and we go. It probably won't be a problem, I'm easy. As for room space Pete, I have room for two more(we'll split the cost). Riff lives almost directly west of Attica and it took me 2 hours to get to his house going 70-75.

GRNMACHINE, yes you can call me I will leave my phone on.

Hey Dave, here's the # to the Ramada in Danville.

(217)446-2400

Directions from Attica to Danville

The address is 388 EastGate Drive, yahoo couldn't find that street, sorry.

Actually, as it looks Matt.....They're just gonna meet me at the hotel that evening to chill out...they don't know if they're gonna stay...But I'll keep ya up dated...If they stay...They'll crash with me...but like I said...depends
Thanks...
Pete

Riff, remember I'm old and slow so run this whole problem by me again. I can't get a handle on it from your other posts.

Which side is it?

Which side does it bolt up to?

Do you have the spindles off or on? the reason I ask is someone else is having a problem with the pass axle binding with their new kit on. If the holes are drilled in the wrong place and you have the spindles on the pass side slip joint might not have enough room to compress. Therefore you won't be able to get the axle slid in far enough to get the holes to line up. Hope that makes sense. Check out this thread http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=19760

Is the problem with the axle pivot drop down bracket where the axle bolts to it?

Is it a side to side problem or an up and down problem?

I still say try the stock rear shocks if you have to. Or for the weekend ease up on your driving style a little and try it without shocks. Both are options, but only for offroad and only for one weekend.

I will come down tomorrow after work to get it fixed if you don't have any luck tomorrow. Anne said lets do it. All you have to do is give me your Phone # and be home to get us there and help. And find me a cheap hotel to stay in , I'll pay for it. I would get there around 8pm so at 7 pm tell the boss your sick and are going home. Theres no waste of gas or time or anything, I go thru Bloomington on 74 on my way to Attica anyway.

I went after a friend of mine one time cause his trans stuck in gear. 5pm call on a sunday, six and a half hours at 70+, 30 minutes to fix it, six and a half hours home. Got home with no sleep 30 minutes before work started. Thats what friends do!

I'll expect an answer tonight or when I get home tomorrow at 4:30 pm and not one that says Sorry I'm not going to make it.

Also find a machine shop thats open saturday mornings in case we need something done like turning that axle down.

Try this in the mean time. Pull the pass side spindle and see if it all goes together. If it does the axle is too long ( bolt holes are wrong in the brackets. If thats it pull the bracket and get it redrilled . Should'nt be a big deal.

Let me know whats up.

That's cool Pete, I thought I would offer just in case. I'll talk to you on Sat.

For everyone else! I talked to the Ramada and they are overbooked 10 rooms. I checked my reservation and it was still good. Looks like anybody without a room will shack up with someone else. Just wanted to let you guys know what's up.

They also have rollaway beds for $10 each.

See you guys there!!

ok....heres the thing with that...i still am going to need an alignment, and the pitman taken off (cause i don't have the resources to remove the pitman). unless you think that it can drive with out an alignment....i dunno about that...

with the axles.....the right independent axle only needs to be moved about 3/4" to 1/2" to the left. it is a axle pivot point lowering bracket that is almost directly in the middle, right under the tranny.....its bolted into the crossmember under it. i don't think there is any binding, but tomorrow morning, i am going to be putting the left tire back on, and seeing if i can get the axle to move freely. (right now, the rotor is resting on the ground, but with no load on it, other than the coil spring.) and unfortunatley i don't know how to remove the spindle....

another problem is i have to bleed the brakes. the bleeding valves seem to be welded shut there is so much rust on them. i tried getting on open today, and it wouldn't move....so i took a pair of vice grips to it (i know, stupid move) and it still wouldn't move. but thankfully, i didn't strip all of the hex head off.

with the shocks, the stock shocks are actually longer when fully compressed. if i were to mount them on the u bolt plate/shock mount then they would be about 1" away from bottoming out. a very very very slight bump in the road would bottom it out. what that guy suggeted in that thread you showed me, actually didn't look to stable. all he did was remove the sway bar, and on the axle in its place there are 3 hole going vertical. i believe in his case, he took the old shock bolts, and just bolted them into there, resting the whole shock weight on that bolt. i don't know how safe that is, but i would need to pick up another grade 8 bolt and nut, because the old one broke off when i took a breaker bar to it......

honestly, i had gotten to a point of hoplessness...not on the lift it self, but on getting done for attica. i don't think that i can get the steering, get aligned, and now possible get the axle shortened in time. i know i can eventually get done, just not in time for this weekend. ya know? what do ya think?

Hum, I've goin home tomorrow and figurin some stuff out...My friends at Purdue offered me free room at his dorm room so I may be goin there, I may not. I know it is less of a drive from there than it is from danville which is nice cause I won't be getting alot of sleep this weekend...So we only used a credit card to hold the room and not pay for it...So if I can get outta that scott free or with little charge, then I'll probably stay at Purdue...It's nice to see the home town friends.....Not that I don't wanna be with y'all cause I'm sure we'll have quite the stories...I'll keep ya updated....and Matt....I'll get ya the cell number tomorrow.
Thanks, Pete

I still plan on coming down tonight. We'll get the brakes bled. Go to a rental place and get a pitman arm puller, I don't have one. Autozone or pepboys or napa or someone should have one to rent. I can set the toe in on the front end, and the other can wait till you get back. Can you be home at 8 tonight? I don't want to go if you ain't going. Lets try to get it done. Don't wuss out on me. Gotta go to work. Anne will check on this today and let me know how its going.

When I was doing my lift, I bought the smaller pitman arm puller for about 15 bucks....Thought I'd help with the general pricing idea...I used it a bit, but shoulda had a bigger one to get the nuchkle further in the opening to get it off..oh well live and learn...hope this helps!
It's 5:50 and it's almost that time to get the ride to the train station....AHH!!! Anticipation building!
Pete

CALL!!!

Riff, I'll be on my way at around 5:00PM so hope to make it over around 7:00-7:30 how to find you??????

Dave? are you coming? let me know! I checked with Ramada and my reservation stands. I can check-in any time though so even though we help Riff, we can still go there to wash-up and take a short nap. I don't think it's that far from Riff's house.

Kampy, you can also crash with us. It's gonna be only me and Dave in that room, of course if Anne doesn't mind.

Later,

I'll check here again wbefore I leave.
Still have to go and change oil before the trip.

guys...i hate to be a bum, but you shouldn't come down here. i really can't deal with it right now. i really do appreaciate your offers...i appreaciate it a lot, but i want this thing to be done right. i don't want to rush it, and have somthing break out there. i also have a guy coming mid day saturday to work on it. he is a mechanic by trade. so unfortuantely i can't make it tomorrow. i think its great what you all are offering to do, but (i know my attitude is in the wrong place...) im fed up with it, and i need some time away from the damn thing!!!!

So basically what im saying is, though i hate to dis you guys like this, is if you come down here...i won't be here!!! im really really really sorry, and i really do appreaciate you offer to help, but i just can't!! you guys just go play at attica and we'll meet up soon enough!! i promise!!!!! ok?

im sorry, and Thanks again!!!

Andre,

I will probably be leaving Macomb at around 4pm. I'll get to the room at about 7:30. Whoever gets there first pays for it and the other reimburses. I think that I will only be staying on Friday night though. i got sprung with a test and a paper that I have to do for Monday and will need Sunday to work on them.

Riff, are you going to be home tonight? Give a call to the Ramada when you are free and let us know what is going on.

If you're sure that we can't get it done, then ok. But if there is a chance that with out collective minds (what's left of them anyway) that we can get it done then at least give us a chance.

We'll see.

Dave

Riff, Sure is a bummer to hear you won't be able to attend tomorrow!!! Don't be too bummed. Kampy's offer still stands, if you happen to change your mind. He's also a mechanic by trade. Whatever is best for you, there's always next time. We could at least come and help cheer you up!!?! :D

We'll definitely see you next run, right?

Good Luck,
Mystery passenger

95 IS BACK! My modem has been out for almost 2 weeks! I live south of Terre Haute about 20 miles so I'm not very far from Attica. My dad doesnt want to run our Explorer there because he's afraid we'll tear something up. But we might be there the second day to watch. Could somebody anyswer these following questions for me? I dont have much time to scan through these 14 or so pages to find the answers.

Is this a park or something up there for four wheelin or just trails on somebody's property?

Is it for Explorers only? Dad doesnt wanna run it if theres a good chance soemthing wil get tore up, but we would be glad to show you what his F-150 can do. :D

Are the trails difficult? Or is there some for stockers?

Where exactly in Attica is this? And I saw that we should meet at the IGA while back. Admission fees?

Times?

Sorry for all the questions guys, I just wanted to get it as fast as possible. We might be able to attend. I really doubt we'll run our Explorer unless the trails are really "not grisly" but we'd be glad to hit the trail with dads ol pickup. But this would be my first run so I really want to attend and get some pictures. Thanks for all your help guys, I look forward to seing you all Sunday...maybe

95 Limited,

Not only for explorer's. Strong possibilty of scraping the body moulding under the doors if stock. (I did). Multiple trails for different setups. Yes a stocker can run. $15 for one day admission/ $20 for two days. It is a park on someones land. This is their business.

Go to http://www.badlandsoffroad.com for more information.

Dave

Come on down!! there's plenty of room there for stockers. As a matter of fact Dave is running his stocker there for a second time now. Entry fee is $15.00 for one day, $20.00 for two. It's an off-road park that I believe has been extended to 1000 acres now. We'll be there Saturday morning. Channel 25 on your CB. Or just stop by today at Ramada in Danville, IL. I should be there around 8:00PM so Dave, when you get there, don't do anything, just get the room and wait, don't pay since it's all on my credit card anyway. I'm staying one night as well so don't worry about that. After this night we'll just pack and never come back. I'll go home straight from the park. I shouldn't be too far behind you. It all depands on traffic. Friday, you know.

Anybody needing info on the park go to: http://www.badlandsoffroad.com

See you all there!!!!!!!!

Riff, looks like you're pissed off completely. You don't even want to see us anymore, well, we just wanted to help or at least come over and pretend. Next time.
Kampy, looks like there will be no leader this time. I hope someone else will step-up to the plate.

Sure won't be me!

When you guys are in the area, get on the phone or knock on our door at Ramada. Otherwise, see you all tomorrow!!

I won't be back today so if you have something for me here's the number::::: 773-230-5221

Later,
:)
