attica badlands 2001

well on the way back about 2 hours from St. Louis I stopped at a rest stop and saw some trailers with the rigs I remembered form the event so I go ttalkin to em, mentioned Explorers and they were like "oh were you with that huge group of explorers?" LOL so we got noticed :). There was some challenging trails indeed, it was a fun area, I hope to return some day, with Vegas of course :)

heheh

welcome to the roll-over club Riff :)......next time wanna see it on its roof :).........................I am glad i wasnt riding shot-gun like i should have been...........

NO i sat home crying over a bud dreaming of super large mud puddles of endless dept......contemplating suicide............. (ok maybe not)

Yeah I think it is awesome that people noticed us! We were the only real unique trucks out there! everything else was something you see everyday!

Man we even have a guy from Offroad Mag roll in Riff's rig! he was going to get some group shots and whatnot but we never got back together after riff rolled.

All and All I think we made some eyes go wide! PEOPLE WILL SHOW US RESPECT NOW!!!-

one more thing I forgot to mention... I seem to have lost my bag with two shirts in it, I thought I left it in Rick's vehicle but I may have moved it to someone elses vehicle or it may have just been altogether lost. It was the bag that they gave us with all the logo's and catalogs and so forth, and had two shirts - the superlift event shirt and one of the badlands shirts, both were XXXL. So, if anyone comes across it let me know otherwise I've just lost two shirts :*(.

I sit here reading all of this and can't believe I only met Brian 2 weeks prior to the event and otherwise knew nobody. The teamwork we showed is something that huge corporations would pay big bucks to have in their companies. Scott B and I were discussing how we were the ones who were pulling out other vehicles and getting muddy for others while spectators just piled in to watch. You were a great group to take my first organized ride with and I hope to have the opportunity to ride with each of those trucks again, you too Rich, get your 4x4, and Eric it was nice to have somebody else a little smaller out there for a while and be concerned with not making it for the little bit you were able to attend. I commend you on missing out and I would love to make it up and I'm sure everyone else would agree.

I think they all noticed us big times on Saturday when we were sitting all in line in the middle of lower parking lot...... everybody had to go around us.... lol

also that's another thing....... every time someone was in trouble we would stop and help right away..... like Matt pulling that Chevy out of a hole...... he didn't even think for a second, just backed-up and threw a line...... or Rick later with a stuck full size (Chevy again)...... almost flipped his Pumpkin in the process (lol, I thougt the Chevy guy is going down for good). Sargon helped him out too in his Jeep........ it was one fine event and I bet when Rick gets back home and on,line he'll be able to say even more.

One thing that came from Rick that was funny came after he ran in the woods playing in mud with everybody else....... he said, Pumpkin has been introduced to mud today..... and took a few pictures for the front page....... now have anybody seen Pumpkin covered in mud from tires to the roof??????

Some of my pics are up at the photopoint link in my sig.
sorry if some of them are a little blurry, they were so good I had to take them right off of video.

I agree, I think we all made a new chapter in the Explorer book at attica.
In the parking lot before I left I had about 3-4 different individuals asking about the X and why there were so many, they were shocked to find out that we all were there from so many different places, and couldnt believe that we did some of the trails we did.
I even had to bust out the video camera to show one guy it was true, he was amazed.
Another guy thought that we were like a part of some superlift sponsered series or something?

What a great time. And I am so on for Ramsey, hopefully I will be locked up with 4.10's by then.

Riff-I left my safety can in your truck. Get in touch with me and I will figure out what to do.

scott-Let me know how that video is going

Rick-Do you want some digital video of the event to put up?

Matt adams-Thanks for taking video of my ass when I was on my hood trying to bend down and hook up my tow strap, It was qiute a surprise to see when I watched the video. Paybacks a B!tch!!!

Kampy-I will drive out some time if you want to do my gears and lockers, I will pay of course let me know a price or if your even not interested. I have just never done gears before.

Soon to be more pics.

Ya, our presence was known...that's for sure!

Anybody got more pics? I know MattAdams has like 200....can't wait to see those.

Anybody know what the normal running temp is on these Explorers?

temp

hmmmm i thought it was 190 something........................................ mine was cold bloodedd had 175 thermo in it

Just like to say how great it was meeting you guys from the site. Its good to put a face with the name.
Thanks to the NOIC guys for the licence plate frame. And to Matt Tripp for the pass. Although I got there an hour early because of the time difference between MI & IN (unknown to me) nobody even asked if I was registered. "Just get in line for breakfast."
Man I gotta tell you that Badlands is a rough place.....
Water so deep it was over the hubs. Rocks as big as basketballs. Sand hills to launch over and slippery stickey MUD that got all over my floor mat.
And that was just in the parking lot.
My X was tramatized.....
Sorry I didnt have the time to get out on the trails as a "ride along" but it was good to meet & greet.
Next time.....

I've got about a 100 pictures but have yet to hook up my scanner. Will let you all know......

man, we are good!!!

Rick, are you back??????

Rick is back... I saw him posting elsewhere :).
Like I said I ended up taking 190 photos. I said I'd be removing a whole bunch due to either being duplicates or blurry whatever and I'm sorry to report that I had to remove almost 10 photos! :). I'll try and get them online tonight so everyone can see themselves, a few times for several people :).

So, did anyone find my shirts?

I'm glad I could help you out, Bill. Still pissed about having to back out...oh well, c'est la vie. :D

I will definately be glad when this semester is over. :bounce:

:p To those of you who know about my alternator situation and how i got raped at that carquest store in Attica. Get this, I went into a carquest store down the street from me here in suburbian ohio, raised a little cane and now they are not only going to swap me the 130 amp alt. for the 95 amp one I bought in attica, but they are going to refund me money also because he said they basically "raped me" in attica.
I told him I knew they were making a killing on me out there but thats only cause he knew I was in a jam.(thats alright cause I think he burnt his finger on the one I pulled out of my truck because I pulled it out in 3 minutes, and it was still hot)

Leggo, that is great to hear! It is great to find a honest Auto Parts Store. That was insane that they origonally charged you that for such a small Alternator. You posted earlier about the vidoe. I just talked to DannyBoy earlier today, he is done with his Sunday film and will probably be sending it to you for you Sunday film tomarrow (4-26.) After you get your film on it send it to me and I will get the copies of it out to the rest of the people.

IF ANYBODY THAT WAS NOT AT ATTICA, BUT WOULD LIKE A VIDEO, SEND ME AN E-MAIL AND I WILL SEND YOU A COPY ALSO. I will post when the Videos get sent out.

....

scott............how much for the video of atticca........... remember dont have a lot of money I am just a working slave

:D

I could be wrong, but i think we are just charging you for the tape? Let Barrett correct me if i am wrong.

I am not exactly sure. I am not going to make any profit. That is not why I am offering the video. When I find out what the shipping costs are I will post that. But that is all I will be asking. It won't be much at all, just a few dollars. Later today I will go back to work (I work for UPS) and find out how much. But like I said it won't be much. If you want one, just e-mail me your address.

I had a great time at the badlands. The trip was definately worth while. Badlands has a little bit of everything all in one place.

I would like to clarify my situation with the full size Chevy though as the story has seemed to grow and grow. The Pumpkin was never in danger of getting pulled in or flipping or anything else. After I gave the guy the hook I started reeling him in while i was standing outside the truck. The brake was off and the truck wasn't in gear so it rolled a foot or so. So I jsut hopped in and put my foot on the brake. No biggie.

The Chevy was a different story. As the winch pulled him towards me he kept giving it gas. He was over running the winch cable so I had to keep running it to keep it tight. Between the winch and his lead foot he managed to put himself in a worse position with water jsut about to pour in his drivers door window!

Anyway, we got another winch on him from the side and that pulled him upright.

The Pumpkin recieved a couple scrapes out there on the 3-4 trail. I scraped a front fender on a tree, that should buff out and on the same tree I cracked my Bushwhacker fender flare... now it matches the flare on the other side.

I know for sure that we impressed the hell out of the guy who was leading us on that trail. I think we made a good showing for Ken Brubaker as well, I can't wait to see his coverage of the event!.

We made a great showing with Explorers from 8 states! That is really quite an accomplishment. Thanks to everyone in the NOIEC for showing me a great time! I had a blast! :bounce:

My photos will be online later today.
