auto locking hubs

a buddy of mine used his 97 sport in 4wd in the snow the other night and now the front hubs wont unlock. i took it around and tried backing up a long ways like i used to do when i had auto hubs. nothing worked. any ideas? i'm guessing that they will just unlock at some point. this thing has never been used in 4wd before. let me know whats up.

ok, thats news to me, most of my experience is with 92-94's. what is it then that it still feels like the 4x4 is on? it bucks while turning just like the hubs are locked.

Maybe the transfer case shift motor won't pull it outta 4WD. hE HAS A '97 so it has, 4 auto, 4 hi, and 4 lo. so at any given time there is 4% power up front and 96% in the rear
