In my line of work, it can be dangerous to have headlights on at night sometimes. Is there a way to disable the DRLs on my 94? I just picked it up last night and its my only complaint so far (besides the sluggishness :D ).
Pull some fuses maybe or some relays? :salute:

...what's your line of work??? ranger or explorer???

You must have a Canada X or someone added DRL's to your X. Cause stock US versions do not have them.

Do they look like they are stock? Any hacked wires or things that don't seem to fit? Like wires, or harness's?

A guy in his 50s owned it so I REALLY think he didnt add that hah.
The speedo isnt canook tho lolz
Damn this DRL crap I need to get rid of it.

Cant I just yank some stuff out somewhere..

...i'm not even sure the limiteds had them...i guess what we are saying is they must be aftermarket so just follow the wires...:D

the drl relay is right in front of the abs system next to the radiator.

...quicklook2, what years and models of the first gens did the drl appear on???
...i am sure this could help others as i myself have not seen them...:D

it would have been in all of them.

the ford service manual shows it right behind but a little lower than the drivers side headlight in the engine compartment.

it has a bracket that holds it.

it has a cap for u.s. versions.

the wire junction is on the bottom.

part number is 15A272.

Well biglipps66, maybe that will take care of your DRL problem.

Now, let's see what we can do about the sluggishness...

I did the throttle cable mod on mine - made a big difference!
Before, I couldn't even get it to downshift trying to climb a hill.
(I actually fixed that too good - had to cut one zip-tie off.)
I just added one big zip-tie on the throttle cable and ended up with two on the kick-down cable.
It's like a new ride now. Have to keep my foot out of it to stay at 20 MPG.

Good luck and welcome!

Aren't police issue Exs customized to defeat the drl system? (I do realize this is a personal use vehicle)

No 91-94 X was equipped with DRL unless it was for Canada or overseas.
I'll look in my service manual tonight & get back to you on what the system looks like.

that is what i said earlier.

and i described, as best i could, from the service manual where it is.

I'm too suspicious...

(This is just a side note, nothing to do with the poster. Just need to know if this is correct)

If this is not a police issue vehicle, but the poster is an officer (I assume law enforcement), then why not go through the same resource that disables drl in police issue vehicles? If the vehicle is being used for surveillance, doesn't it need to be registered through the department/municipality? I can't image random vehicles showing up to do undercover or plain clothes work... No mechanic at the station? Don't they need to make sure the vehicle is functioning properly so that the lights don't just pop on in the middle of watch?

Lights off, engine running, drl disabled... why would the engine be running during surv? And you can't pursue w/o lights... No implications, just curious. Are there any police officers on board right now? Quebec? U.S.? Can you self-authorize use of your own vehicle?

do all explorers with auto lamps have drls because i have seen two 94 eddies in a junk yard by my house with auto lamps. the control thingy was on the rearview mirror. just wondering

quicklook mentioned a part number for the DRL relay/module. just wondering if it would be possible to purchase this part to add the DRL feature to a vehicle not equipped with it.

that is the part number in the service manual.

i would think it is plug and play and is the reason why the original posters vehicle has them even though it has miles on the speedo.
