Hey all...

I'm wanting to put an early model 302 (non computer controlled) in my Bronco. I've found an engine that's in running condition but whatever to it because i'm going to rebuild it with some performance parts anyway. I believe the A4LD will mate up to this but need to know for sure. Also being that the engine will be carberated I'm wondering if I can still use the electric fuel pump, it's brand new ya see. Then next, what with all the wiring that won't be used... lots of question I know.
I just want to see if anyone has done this already and if not what ideas you guys will come up with.
As you can see in my picture this truck is in perfect shape. Everything in the front end is new, there's not a spot of rust anywhere on the truck meaning i've got a lot of money in it already. Take note the paint job wasn't my idea, it was like that when I bought it... i'm not too fond of it but being i'm a fire fighter the flames can be thought to be somewhat appropriate!
Any ideas will be appreciated...
Mark

Hmm... I'm surprised no one posted anything here. Damn I feel lonely :)

My 84 B2 came with a mech. fuel pump so I had to installed an electric one for the carbed 302. I also put an adjustable fuel regulator on firewall. It's adjusted to 6 pounds.
The carb is Hollys 470 CFMs Truck Avenge carb with the off-road goodies installed from Holley. The 470 is good up to a 302.

Here is a pic of the regulator with the pressure guage.
Also be sure you use a good filtration system for the gas. I have an in tank filter that I modified for a larger filter bag, then a cannister type fileter that has a coarse filter element near tank and then a fine filter right before carb that you can see in pic.
The number one problem with carbs is the jets getting clogged.

Wow... now that's sweet! Thanks for the info. What did ya pay for the pressure gauge?

I forgot to ask... what'd ya do with all the excess wiring?

The A4LD will not mate to a 302. Even if you could make it fit, the excess HP and torque would destroy that tranny very quickly. The best mate apparently is the 4r70w.

Thanks for the trans info. I was also told that the AOD would be a good candidate too... ?

AOD is a good auto to use for your 5.0L conversion as LONG as you get the input cable/linkage adjusted perfectly, otherwise you can blow up the AOD in a few miles

the AOD eventually became the AOD-E and then the 4r70w

You may also consider a C4 automatic (3 speed, great fit in a BII) or C6 if you are sticking with an automatic and carbed 302

I have a 98 5.0L drivetrain in my 88 Bronco II, you may find some helpful info in my conversion thread... much of the same issues apply, oil filter relocation, cooling setup, exhaust manifolds, and oil pan/engine mounts...etc

the build thread is in my signature

Thank You...

I understand that the C series, (whether the 4 or 6) will be a ***** to find. So what do I find the 4R70W in? Also do I need an adapter plate to mate up to a 302?
