My 98 5.0 XLT back wiper when on, misses the first 1/2 of the glass but then hits the glass and wipes the rest of the glass.....Washer works great, just not the wiper....Bent Arm....I seem to recall a few years ago trying to get a handle on it, and by pushing in on where the arm meets the cylinder, it worked (I think) ......
Any ideas?????

This is covered in many previous posts. You have to bend the metal arm back into alignment. The rubber stopper at the bottom puts pressure against the arm, bending it out over time. It's common to have to bend it a couple times to get it right, then bend again every 3-6 months.

Here is the TSB for the rear wiper. Buy the new part or grind the stops down on the underside of the old arm. Bending the arm usually winds up causing the arm to stick in the docking bracket or under the glass or wear a gouge in the paint.

Some 1998-2002 Explorer Sport And 1998-2001 Explorer/mountaineers May Exhibit
A Rear Wiper That Does Not Sufficiently Clean The Backglass. To Service,
First Inspect For The Letters 'ab' Stamped On The Wiper Arm Just Below The
Wiper Blade Pivot Pin. If The Letters Are Not Stamped On The Arm, Install New
Service Arm Part # Xl2z-17526-aa. Note: Ensure That The New Service Arm
Assembly Has The Letters 'ab' Stamped On It. Original Wipers With 'ab'
Stamped Near The Pivot Pin Were Revised To Apply More Pressure To The
Backglass.

I hit the hinges of the wiper arm with PB Blaster. Works great now.
