My 92 Explorer V6, wouldn't start so I took off the battery terminal clamps, cleaned them and the posts, and reinstalled them. It started and I got home. In the morning I tried to start it but it just clicked... there was lights and electric so I cleaned again... Not this time so I figured the battery was going bad (4 years old) I replaced it with no luck... It just clicked so I replaced the starter relay... When I put the wires back together I get nothing... no hood light, no nothing. I think it is a bad cable or maybe there is an inline fuseable link somewhere but I could use some help or if I am looking in the right direction. ANY help would be grateful...

First of all, welcome to the board!!! There's plenty of good info here. Just use the search button up top to find it.

For your problem, it may well be cables. There is a history of the battery cables going bad. They tend to get hidden corrosion inbetween the battery clamp and the cable. My old '92 had the same problem. Had plenty of power for the accessories, but nada to the starter.

If you have a multi-meter, check the resistance between the battery end of the cable and the starter end of the cable. If it's more than a few ohms, it's probably bad. New cable ran me about $30 at Pep boys.

Good Luck!!

Have had the same problem on my 91 4.0 "X"!!! Just replace the cable.....which you can find at most auto parts stores, and it should work fine!

Good Luck

Won't Start

I changed the cables and the starter relay but the car is DOA still... I'm having it towed to the local Ford Dealer... I'll let you know what gets fixed...
