Alright so I have so bad news. This weekend I took my 03 4.0 from Long Island to Cortland for the annual Cortaca parties. Me and my four buddies went up friday and the truck ran great. Once we got over the GW it ran a good 80-90 the whole way. Got up there did some driving around and all seemed well. Didnt burn a drop of oil nothing. So this morning as we were leaving I packed up the car and started it up. As soon as I started it I heard these crazy noises, sounded like there was no oil pressure. The noises lasted only a few seconds. Once I put the car in drive it started misfiring like crazy. I put it back in park and popped the hood. I quickly noticed the belt tensioner had given way. Shocking knowing that I replaced it less than 20k miles ago. So i limped to the nearest advanced auto parts and luckily they had a tensioner. I changed it in the parking lot and started it back up and still terrible hesistion and misfiring. Now being 300 miles away I needed to get it running. I went back in and bought new plugs. Changed the plugs (Originally had Motorcraft with 20k also on them) with NGK Iridium tipped. The plugs all looked good and were in gap. Once I put the new plugs in I started it up again and it seemed to smooth out alot but not perfect. But enought to get her home. The entire way the check engine light was flashing on and off but seemed to be running fine doing 70 it was only on the downhill sections where it would flash, other wise constant. Now being home and looking closley, I noticed there is a crack in the back of the passenger valve cover, and a consrant loud ratteling at 3000rpm both under load and in park. So whats the damage you think, timing chain, rod, rocker arm. Everything seemed to go all in one shot today.

Timing chain tensioner. Apparently the passenger side one, it drives off the back side off the engine.

Or you have a broken/misplaced rocker arm on that side...Is the crack in the valve cover new?

Yea just happened this weekend. Never been a crack there before

So the Ford let me down. Over 3500 to fix and couldn't guarantee it would run good again. Being only 19 I can say this will be the ford I ever own. As of now I managed to sell it for 3600. Now im waiting for my chevy dealer to get in a silverado that ive been looking for.

Wait- so after driving the truck to the parts store running like crap, you put in a belt tensioner and plugs (?) after which the truck is blazing a CEL when it isn't flashing a CEL, and you drive it 70 mph all the way home, and the noise-following catastrophic damage is the trucks fault? Interesting.

70 mph isn't so bad but maybe this had something to do with it as well>>>>> quote: >>>>>>>>>>Once we got over the GW it ran a good 80-90 the whole way>>>>>>>>>

To be 19 years old again! I can't remember that far back. ;) Guy has only been driving for 2-3 years tops, beats the hell out of his Ex doing 90 mph across NY state and he is ready to kick Ford to the curb. I feel sorry for his upcoming Silverado.
